Shot in Los Angeles and entirely self taught, Justin Calen-Chenn also served as lead actor, producer, writer, cinematographer, editor, grip, production designer, and other roles in the film.
This story was created from a white teddy bear, an elephant latex mask, and the idea of the scars people carry. The budget was entirely self-financed by director, Justin Calen-Chenn, who sold almost all his belongings, including his beloved vintage toy collection, to get money for his debut feature.
As of August 2009, The Way of Snow is being re-scored with new music and re-sound designed to bring Chiang's vision of it to 100%. In 2008, due to financial troubles, the film was only 70% complete when it was released into the industry.
Writer-Director Justin Calen Chenn was nominated for Best Young Director at the 2008 International Film Festival of South Africa.
The film won awards for Best Editing, Best Production Design, and Best Make-Up at the 2010 Los Angeles International Film Festival. It was also given Honorable Mention.
