Warning: Spoilers
This interesting film, written and directed by Humberto Hinojosa Ozcariz, reveals a new talent in the Mexican cinema. The bonding between two friends that goes back to their childhood, is at the center of the story. In a way, this theme has been seen before in outstanding films like "Y tu mama tambien" and "Rudo y cursi", where actors of the stature of Gabriel Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna were the stars and the main attraction for discerning viewers.

Jose and Kumbia find themselves working as shepherds in the ranch of a powerful man. While Kumbia dreams of going up North, Jose, is not totally convinced that is in their best interests. Both young men find an unwanted adversary in Jeronimo, the son of their employer, who will make their lives impossible. The appearance of Maria, a beautiful woman who takes an interest in Jose, will bring things into a head.

"Oveja negra" is a film that combines drama with the picaresque as Jose and Kumbia resort into getting their due from the bad boy and his ruthless father. The director was lucky to find an excellent cast that does wonders to deliver what he intended to do. Christian Vazquez and Rodrigo Corea play Jose and Kumbia showing good chemistry. Ivan Arana has the best part in Jeronimo, the spoiled rich boy that feels he must get rid of the two ranch hands. Lovely Ximena Romo Mercado makes a good contribution with her Maria.

Technically, this film has nothing to envy more costly productions. Thanks to the crisp cinematography of Kenji Katori, those luminous Mexican exteriors are seen in all its splendor. The musical score is by Ernesto Paredano. There is no doubt Mr. Hinojosa Ozcariz will go far if he continues the promise he shows.

GREAT! The best Mexican film in years!

From "Y Tu Mama También", to "Amores Perros", Mexican cinema is one of the finest worldwide. Many Mexican talents continue their path through Hollywood, their debuts being praised for their originality, their superb acting or just because they were different.

This is the case of "Oveja Negra", THE most entertaining Mexican film I've seen in years. A clever script, wonderful direction, excellent performances (The very best being Jeronimo, the bad guy, and the weakest being the girl) and a simple, original and VERY funny story makes this movie worth every penny.

The story tells the story of José (Christian Vasquez), a young boy who works at a Ranch, and his best friend Kumbia (Rodrigo Corea). Together, they are planning to escape and look for a better life. Eeverything is going great, until Jeronimo, the son of their boss (who is always looking for ways to make things worse for them), starts suspecting about their secret plan. To make things more complicated, Maria (Ximena Romo), Jose's platonic love, arrives to town.

In conclusion, this is a wonderful film, something you should definitely look for. I had the chance of seeing the film at the Guadalajara Film Festival, several months ago, with the Director and Cast making an introduction to the film. Undoubtedly, I'll be watching it again when it's released in theaters.

Humberto Hinojosa Ozcariz is a name we'll surely hear from in the future, as maybe the next big Mexican talent.
