A wonderful episode which handles some of the darker themes and moments from season one. Really the first time we see Ventress shine and her rivalry with Ashoka grows. Gunray is a nice addition to the episode creating some slime moments. James Marsters plays a particularly interesting role this episode.

Even though this arc was not off to a smooth start, I thought this episode was a vast improvement over the first. Not only did we actually get reintroduced to Luminara Unduli but got to see her in action in a great lightsaber battle against Asajj Ventress. The episode also dived into the corruption of the galaxy and we see that the Separatists have spies everywhere, which was a twist that I thoroughly enjoyed. It didn't add a ton of character development, but the fact that it just managed to at least be watchable is great, considering the previous episode. It was darker than previous episodes, but that was always my favorite part of the show when I first saw it, and this is the first real sign of that, so I feel like we're finally interesting the great parts of the show.

A much darker and vastly improved episode over the last one, and nice to see the treachery on both sides, especially when we know who the puppet master of the war is.
However, as much as I'm pro feminism, the 3 female characters were the let down of this episode for me. Ahsoka and Ventress are irritating, especially Ahsoka who just feels like a character shoved in to interest 5 year old girls, and Luminari is just so dull and lacks any sort of personality.

The Dark Side

This was easily the best Clone Wars episode up to this point for me and it gets followed by another great episode which together demonstrate the potential of the show. A potential which would be achieved with so many great episodes later on.
Darker than earlier episodes and more grown up in content with a strong script and great action.
Ahsoka and Luminara Unduli face Assajj Ventress in a great battle as Ventress tries to prevent Nute Gunray being taken by the Jedi for questioning and imprisonment. Ventress is under pressure from Count Dooku after a series of failures and she reaches a new peak of power and menace as a character making a really superb adversary. Ahsoka also is at her best yet and gets a real chance to shine. Luminara Unduli is also a great character with some depth and is impressive in battle. The lightsaber duels are brilliant and the dialogue duels are equally enjoyable.
A great episode.
