Experimental episode consisted of stories about finding meaning through space exploration By Shing Chung
This fall I started watching the 13th season of the TV series Film Lab Presents on Friday nights and the episodes have been a blast for me quarantining at home. The series showcases a variety of Asian American stories of contemporary drama, comedy, and everything in between. Lots of Asian American faces in these contents! The show is produced by the Film Lab, a non-profit that works to promote, support and create racial and gender parity in entertainment media.
The Falcon 0007 by Team 7 is a visually appealing piece about a man's journey to find purpose in outer space, and ends up being disappointed. The story is short yet sweet with a twist in the end. The visual style is quite amazing with the dreamy background capturing the mood of the film. I find the use of the soundtrack "Rare Evening" by RUAreU quite fitting and completing the entire film with a futuristic vibe.
Interstellar Communications by team Bad Asian is a comical piece about a subject that might not be as amusing. It glances into a future where people are leaving Earth one by one and there is a division between the people who have left and the ones that are still on Earth. Reminiscent of the division that we face today in our political climate, the film is a reminder that despite all the confusions and naysayers, we need to stick to our beliefs and hope that our actions will have an impact on the world.
