The Baki series is one of the best-known and most popular martial arts manga and anime series of all time, right next to Hajime no Ippo and Kengan Ashura (we’re not counting Dragon Ball since it has a fantasy element to it). While not everyone likes the style of Baki, the series is popular, and, in fact, the series has been ongoing since 1991, with six different titles as of the time of writing. The current manga story, Baki Rahen, has been published since 2023.
Many of the series’ titles have been adapted into anime format, including the ever-so-popular Baki Hanma series, but we have recently received confirmation that the fourth title in the series, Baki-Dou, will also receive an anime adaptation in the future, adding to the collection.

Netflix’s Baki Hanma Season 2 has ended in spectacular fashion, much to the amusement of the series fans. After a wait of almost two decades (not for manga readers), ardent followers of the Baki anime series were finally able to witness the epic showdown between two generations of the Hanma dynasty, Yujiro and Baki, which led to an emotionally turbulent reconciliation at the end. Yujiro ended up being the winner at the end, but he himself acknowledged Baki’s greatness, declaring his son to be the strongest being on the planet. After all, this was the only fight during the Ogre’s adulthood (except the one with Kaiou Kaku) where he was not bored to death and unleashed his true strength.
With the end of this battle, the Baki Hanma series came to an end, but the journey of Baki and other associated characters is far from reaching its end,...

It all eventually comes down to this one fight, as all the hardships Baki endured, the beatings he took, the inhuman training he went through—everything was his preparation to match up to his father, Yujiro ‘Ogre’ Hanma. The fight for which the fans have been waiting for almost three different series takes place in the final arc of Baki Hanma and ends in the most surprising fashion as well.

August has arrived, and with it, the last full month of summer-worthy shows and flicks, at least for 2023. From all the summer sensations to food weather, carnival fun and, of course, the lack of school, the streamer’s film slate will update with some appropriate flicks like “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,” “Eat Pray Love,” “Despicable Me” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” respectively.
If you’re one of those who senses the change in the air as soon as the salty summer heat gives way to crisp fall fog, “Heartstopper” Season 2, complete with its cartoon drawings of leaves, waits for you starting August 3. “The Lincoln Lawyer: Season 2 Part 2” concludes the two-part followup to the legal drama starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. “Heart of Stone,” a big tentpole film starring Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan, promises action-lovers a good time.

Although a few movies have been dominating Netflix’s film charts for weeks, the Top 10 English film chart for the week of July 24 had a new entry in the action-comedy “Hidden Strike,” starring Jackie Chan and John Cena. Meanwhile, “The Witcher” returned to first place for TV. Read on for this week’s analysis.
Directed by Scott Waugh (“Need for Speed”), “Hidden Strike” was produced independently and sold to Netflix for worldwide streaming rights, a wise purchase considering that the film received 22 million views since quietly hitting the streamer last Friday. It was the #1 watched movie in roughly 50 territories worldwide, and made the Top 10 in 73 countries. Oddly, the United States was not one of them, since that honor went to “They Cloned Tyrone,” which received 11.1 million views worldwide in its first full week on Netflix, enough for third place.

The conflict between nature and nurture has been a prevalent discourse in literature since bygone era, and the anime scene is no exception in this regard. More often than not, shounen narratives introduce the quintessential ‘chosen one’ protagonist representing nature as opposed to the skill honed to perfection, a product of circumstance rivaling nature, where nature’s dominance will prevail irrefutably. The first part of Season two of Netflix’s Baki Hanma brings out a subversive take on the trope, which is either a result of the self-aware mockery of the shounen genre or a blatant effort to take the over-the-top nature too seriously, and we are betting on the first possibility.

It is often said that the act of fighting is the reflection of the purest, more primal instincts of living beings, which signifies the essence of the very struggle to survive itself. And when it comes to exploring the complicated relationship between a father and a son using a myriad of fighting disciplines, concepts, and philosophies, trust the shounen genre of anime to provide you with the most unabashedly over-the-top, in-your-face display of spectacle, which at the same time delivers a latent commentary on the nature of the human spirit.
