Laura Wright is a soap opera veteran currently starring in General Hospital. The actress has been in soaps since 1991, appearing in Loving, All My Children, The City, Guiding Light, and General Hospital. However, she said one of the hardest days she ever had to film happened last year.
Here is what Wright had to say about the day she had to say goodbye to “mom” one year ago this week.
Laura Wright On Her Toughest General Hospital Filming Day
On May 9, 2023, General Hospital star Jacklyn Zeman died. Zeman played Bobbie Spencer on Gh from 1977 until 2010. She returned in 2013 and starred in the role until she died in 2023. With Zeman dying, the popular daytime soap had to find a way to say goodbye to the actress and the character. This was not easy for the cast.

Gu Xiaogang knows firsthand the impact that international film festivals can have.
Gu turned to the Beijing International Film Festival back in 2018 in an effort to get his breakthrough feature, Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, made. He took his film to Bjiff’s project market and he walked away with the funds he needed after impressing investors with his story — an intimate look at a family’s life as it evolves across one year — along with his languid style.
The international film world has since felt much the same. Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains went on to become the first Chinese-language film to close Critics’ Week at Cannes in 2019, was selected among the top 10 films of the year by the leading French film magazine Cahier du Cinema in 2020 and led directly to Gu being named a co-winner of the Akira Kurosawa Award at last year’s 36th Tokyo International Film Festival,...

Judd Apatow is commenting on the trend of streamers licensing content from rival studios.
It was recently announced that Warner Bros. Discovery struck a deal to license Sex and the City to Netflix. Apatow is now looking ahead at the implications that these types of deals might have in the industry in the years ahead.
“I’m of two minds. There’s a part of me that’s an audience member: I’ll go back and rewatch Deadwood or NYPD Blue or any of the David Milch shows. I understand why people like the comfort food of television,” Apatow told Vulture in a recent interview. “But it’s a scary thing as a creator of television, because of all the streamers going, ‘Wait a second. We don’t need to spend $200 million on a new show. We can just bring back Barnaby Jones.’ They’re going to do it, then...

“Welcome to The O.C., bitch!”
With those five immortal words, a cultural phenomenon was born.
The brainchild of a then-25-year-old Josh Schwartz, and guided by the steady hand of his producing partner Stephanie Savage, The O.C. ran for four chaotic seasons on Fox before sailing off into the sunset (or, in the case of poor Marissa Cooper, crashing in a fiery wreck).

More of the Pine Valley influence is coming to Port Charles. Walt Willey, who played attorney Jackson Montgomery on All My Children, is set to reprise the character in an upcoming stint on General Hospital, Deadline has confirmed. He is expected to join the series in July.
Willey portrayed Jackson Montgomery on All My Children from 1987 to the show’s end in 2011. He also played the character in another crossover on ABC’s The City in 1996.
He is not the first All My Children alum to appear on General Hospital. Well, this is a pleasant surprise.
Walt Willey is returning to daytime TV and reprising one of his most beloved roles.
Soap Opera Digest reports that the All My Children alum has closed a deal to star on General Hospital.
And get this:
Willey will be playing Jackson Montgomery!
Cool, right?
It's always nice when a character we thought was long gone gets to stage a comeback long after the series has ended.
Willey joined the cast of All My Children in 1987 and stayed put until the 2011 series finale on ABC.
This is not the first time Willey has played Jackson in another series.
He appeared in The City in 1996, so this will be the third series the actor has played the same role.
Plot details are being kept under wraps about what brings Jackson to Port Charles, but it will be interesting to find out what happened to him...

Stylish and oblique far beyond the point of pretentiousness, Katsuki Kuroyanagi’s The City uses gritty black & white and evocative urban settings in an attempt to create drama its script never much tries to deliver. Wandering the streets of Tokyo’s Shibuya neighborhood offers visual intrigue, but that novelty quickly wears off as a viewer starts to suspect how little else there is to see here. Import value is nil, though the pic may find a few supporters on the fest circuit.
Characters are unnamed, and even the credits (in which most of the actors go by single names, as in: “The Punk: Leo; The Eliminator: Ryota; The Revenger: Yaco”) leave much room for interpretation. So readers are asked to bear with improvised character names.

Life on the Mean Streets of Dublin. The narrative feature debut of actor/screenwriter/documentarian John Connors takes inspiration from real life, including the systematic clerical sexual abuse of generations of Irish Travellers, for this tale of crime, love and struggle on the fringes of society. [Warning: The below contains spoilers for the first four episodes of And Just Like That …] No longer four randy Manhattan musketeers, the mature “party of three” still left from the original Sex and the City quartet—Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis)—would find it hard to deny that in their mid-50s, they (like their series) are beginning to show their age. Well, maybe not the porcelain- and thin-skinned Charlotte. And who cares about a little crow’s feet when one’s own feet are so well shod, and let’s not forget the funky headwear. Still, a restless Miranda blurts “We can’t just stay who we were, right?” in one of many on-the-nose moments in the sentimental and surprisingly maudlin Sex sequel, And Just Like That … This show is so of the moment that it no longer airs on HBO but streams on the HBO Max platform, with the first two episodes ...

Youth and sexuality are on a collision course in the official trailer for HBO Max’s upcoming series Generation.
The Lena Dunham-produced series will premiere Thursday, March 11 with three episodes (wrapping up its first eight-episode half on April 1; the season’s second part will drop later this year) and follows “a diverse group of high school students whose exploration of modern sexuality (devices and all) tests deeply entrenched beliefs about life, love and the nature of family in their conservative community,” according to the official description.

We have our first clue as to how Sex and the City is going on without Samantha Jones.
HBO Max’s upcoming revival, officially announced last month, is bringing back the stars of the original Emmy-winning hit — minus Kim Cattrall’s Samantha. But how will the show explain the absence of one of the show’s core four? Star Sarah Jessica Parker and writer Michael Patrick King are the creative forces behind the sequel, and “they’re not trying to re-do Sex and the City,” HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys emphasizes to TVLine. “They’re not trying to...

Whitney Port may be most recognizable as a former star of MTV’s “The Hills” and its spinoff “The City,” but she has since gone on to build a successful career far beyond the realm of reality television. It’s a journey that Port says was both propelled and impeded by the notoriety that comes with starring on one of the most successful TV franchises of all time.
“The TV show happened very organically but then it created this platform for me to start these different businesses,” Port said at TheWrap’s 2020 Power Women Summit. “The reason why I ended up even doing the spinoff, ‘The City’ [which centered on Port moving from Los Angeles to New York to take a job at Diane von Fürstenberg] is so that I could launch my clothing line.”

Feisty Dame Productions’ Tania Chambers and writer-director Nick Verso have optioned Invisible Boys, Holden Sheppard’s debut novel which follows three 16-year-olds as they come to terms with their homosexuality in a small town in Western Australia.
The protagonists are Charlie, a hardcore rocker who’s not as tough as he looks, Hammer, a footy jock with big Afl dreams and an even bigger ego, and Zeke, a shy over-achiever who is never macho enough for his family.
All three boys hide who they really are. According to the publishers, the novel “depicts the complexities and trauma of rural gay identity with painful honesty, devastating consequence and, ultimately, hope.”
Sheppard fielded a number of offers for the screen rights. “Nick and I clicked really well. Nick is also a gay man, and we spent time over the phone and on Skype discovering that we both have very similar...

The soap opera world was rocked last week when news broke that Roscoe Born, a soap opera vet who has appeared in countless daytime-tv shows, had died.
He was 69.
The family of the actor has now spoken out about the tragic death and revealed that the cause of death was suicide.
"It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the death of our father and brother Roscoe Born," the statement reads.
"The gleaming charisma and creativity that shone through his onscreen performances, fueled his robust songwriting repertoire, and charmed all those around him were matched by a darkness in his life."
It continues, "Roscoe has long struggled with bipolar disorder, a shadow that he succumbed to when he took his own life on Tuesday March 3, 2020."
"We are grateful for the outpouring of kind words and memories. We only wish that Roscoe could have seen how much people still carry his daytime villains in their hearts.

Far Sector puts a new Green Lantern on a new beat and it's one of the most exciting things DC has done in ages.
It's awe inspiring to me that I can know from the moment a comic is announced that it is extremely For Me, and yet still be surprised at how good every issue is. It's even more impressive that I'm getting it from two creators who are relatively new to the medium. But that's the beauty of Far Sector: even when it's been great, it gets better.
I think my first exposure to N.K. Jemisin's writing was prose work. I'm not usually a short story guy, but hers in A People's Future of the United States was so good that I grabbed The Stone Sky right after, and the only reason I didn't tear through that series beginning to end in a week...

The Flash Season 6 Episode 10
Well, after the highs of Crisis on Infinite Earths, which had arguably its best moments in The Flash's chapter, we were bound to have some kind of regression, and that's exactly what we got with "Marathon," an episode so bland that it felt like we were right back in the doldrums of season four and five. It's a real shame. The Flash was the reason we got to see Crisis in the first place, and a significant portion of the crossover's considerable dramatic weight rested on Barry Allen's shoulders. It was The Flash that introduced the Arrowverse version of the DC Multiverse in the first place, and with all the rest of its CW brethren absolutely crushing it with their first post-Crisis episodes,...

For anyone who thought 2016’s American Band would be the most explicitly political record of the Drive-By Truckers career, the quintet has nine new songs that’ll likely convince you otherwise. In 2016, the longtime road warriors found new life with its election year treatise, which saw the band more revved up than they had been in more than a decade, delivering screeds about unsexy topics like the violent history of the confederate flag and the white supremacist roots of the NRA.

Spoiler Warning: This article reveals major plot points from tonight’s series finale of Arrow on The CW.
The 170th and finale episode of The CW’s Arrow aired as the second-half of Tuesday night’s double-episode farewell to Stephen Amell’s austere archer after eight seasons of yeoman’s work both as Star City’s brawny protector and as the somewhat unlikely centerpiece of television’s largest superhero universe.
The Arrowverse may be populated by a flying, bulletproof woman with heat vision (on Supergirl), the fastest man alive (on The Flash), and a time-traveling size-shifter (on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) but it takes its name from a simple street brawler who’s good with a bow.
The finale had an extra layer of complication in the fact that Amell’s bowman didn’t survive to participate in it — he sacrificed his life during the cosmic crossover event called Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Park City – Creativity is king at a festival like Sundance. What pops, surprises and sticks with an audience gets the acclaim and, potentially, the big acquisition dollars. There is a difference, however, between a first-time director taking creative risks and the imaginative swing that Edson Oda takes with his directorial debut, “Nine Days.” And after the drama’s premiere at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, we’re happy to report the Brazilian filmmaker pretty much smashed it.

The unofficial subtitle of “City So Real” — Steve James’ long-gestating and utterly gripping portrait of Chicago — is “The American City at a Crossroads.” Flashing onto the screen over a map of the city broken into neighborhoods, the subtitle isn’t used in each of the four episodes, yet its initial inclusion emphasizes the docuseries’ striking duality. First and foremost, there’s the crisis facing Chicago. Police shootings and gang violence have led to racial and economical divides. Citizens are fleeing for other metropolitan locales in the hopes of finding safer, more affordable homes and better jobs. The city has long been ravaged by political corruption, but the 2019 mayoral election marks voters’ best opportunity to upend the status quo.
That election, and its unprecedented 21 candidates, serve as the ostensible focus of James’ four-hour series. But if it’s not already evident from the topical descriptions above, “City So Real” encapsulates more...

Park City – The life of Greville Wynne really was tailor made for a movie. So much so that it’s surprising it took over 50 years for his heroism to make it to the big screen. But perhaps that’s because it’s a Cold War tale we’ve seen before in one iteration or another. Thankfully, Dominic Cooke’s “Ironbark” is blessed with fantastic turns from Benedict Cumberbatch, Jessie Buckley and Rachel Brosnahan to up the stakes and make it all feel a bit fresher than it actually is.

Park City – There is a beautiful love story at the center of “I Carry You With Me (Te Llevo Conmigo)” which debuted Sunday at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. It’s not only moving, but it’s remarkably based on the lives of two real-life people. Heidi Ewing, an Oscar-nominated filmmaker for the documentary “Jesus Camp,” makes her narrative debut chronicling this unique story, a tale that could have been a gay romance for the ages. Instead, Ewing makes a creative decision in the final act of the picture which simply sucks all the air out of the room. It’s almost unbelievable how wrong that decision turned out to be and I’m flummoxed to recall any other film that made such a wrong turn.
