Zhendo and his wife have just settled in the village. Zhendo's dream is to buy and cultivate land. That is why he plunders the villages along the Bulgarian-Romanian border. Wounded, he barely survives and gives up the robbery - In the spring of 1941 Ivan Shibilev was in the city, studying various arts. Superficial and frivolous, he embarks on a love affair with a married actress. Her husband understood that Ivan returned to his native village of Cherkovna - In 1929, Devetakov's farm. The orphan Nikolin was brought to the farm. The rich and educated Devetakov takes care of him.

Rada and Kalcho's wedding turns into a tragedy - the bride is not a virgin. Calcio is speechless with shame and anxiety. As a ransom for Rada's virginity, Zhendo receives the desired land, but this does not satisfy him. Stoyan's brother Ilko returns to the village. He has tuberculosis and cannot continue his education. Nusha, the daughter of the rich man Petar Pashov, is waiting for him in the village. Stoyan opposes his brother's choice because it runs counter to the communist ideas they have conquered. On September 6, 1944, Nikolin brought from the city Ivan Shibilev and Mrs. Sarmashikova - a friend of Mikhail Devetakov. They bring the news of the changes that have taken place in the city. During her brief visit to Devetakov, Sarmashikova shared her fear of the coming to power. Prepared for the coming changes, Mikhail accepted the news in cold blood. On September 9, 1944, the new government was established in Cherkovna as well.

Devetakov's farm, 1944. Mikhail Devetakov committed suicide. Nikolin is left alone in his legacy from Devetakov's farm. He lives in constant fear. He decides to move to the village. Ilko does not stop searching for the truth in the Barakov case, directly related to the disappearance of Petar Pashov. He went to a labor camp to see the lawyer Marchinkov, who was leading the case at the time. Frightened, Marchinkov did not give him any information. Nicoline meets Mona, who offers him to stay as a landlord in her home. Nikolin, in love, accepts. A new female teacher comes to the village and settles in the house of the modest and hard-working Kiril Dzhelebov. In May 1945, Koycho returned with a medal from the front. Ivan Shivilev returned to the village after a short stay in the city. When he meets Mona, he discovers that she is pregnant. Mona gives birth. In the autumn of 1945, without knowing the truth about the Barakov case, Ilko returned to the village.

In the spring of 1948, the new government, in the person of Stoyan Kralev, began agitation for the cooperation of the peasants. He offers Kalcho to become a guard at the cooperative level. Ilko tries to convince Kiril Dzhelebov of the same, but without success. Sensing the changes, Koycho left for the city - A militia broke into Haidutina's house and took his pistol. He was later arrested. Refusing to enter the cooperative, Zhendo was locked in a barrel by order of Stoyan. They want to drown him, but they don't have the courage. Ilko meets Marchinkov, who is at the end of his life. His lawyer handed him his notes on the Barakov case and informed him of the real traitor, Mikhail Barakov, the city's current police chief.

1953 year. Zhendo visits Koicho in the city. He offers his son to return to the village and work together the land ceded to them by the cooperative farm. Koycho refuses, broken in his last desire for freedom. Zhendo enters the cooperative. Only Kiro is not in the cooperative. For this reason, Stoyan refused to issue him documents with which Kirov's sons could continue their education in the city. Pressed by the circumstances, Dzhelebov tried to enter the cooperative, but could not find the strength. He is buried in his fields, where he is found half-dead. Stoyu Barakov expelled priest Encho from the village and confiscated the icons painted by Shibilev. In front of the eyes of the whole village, Stoyan lit the icons and banners of the church. Ilko can no longer accept the way his brother mixes in people's souls and hearts. He leaves for the city.

Life goes on with everyday problems. A telegram arrives from West Germany announcing the death of Marcho, Djelebov's son, who fled there a year ago. Kiro is looking for Ilko in the city to share his grief. Ilko finds new information in the Barakov case and learns from them that Mikhail's betrayal was covered up by his father Stoyu Barakov. 24.XII. 1965 In the pub Zhendo, Stoyan, Nikolin, Ivan, Kiro and Kalcho find out from Ilko, who came from the town, about the seven wolves near the village. They decide to go on a hunt. Everyone is preparing for battle, for clearing old accounts. In the snow-covered forest, the seven men return to their youth.
