The violent nature of the partition created an atmosphere of hostility and suspicion between India and Pakistan that affects their relationship to this day.
The Abortion Act 1967, legalizing abortions on certain grounds, was passed in October 1967 and came into effect in April 1968. The Act made abortion legal in all of Great Britain (but not Northern Ireland) up to 28-weeks gestation. In Northern Ireland, abortion was illegal unless it was to save the life of the mother or if continuing the pregnancy would have resulted in the pregnant woman becoming a 'physical or mental wreck'; abortion was decriminalized in Northern Ireland in October 2019.
