Fiona Wallice, the quack web therapist takes sudden interest in one of her dullest patients, Jerome when he informs her that he may have unintentionally committed incest with his possible sister after realizing that his father had possibly donated sperm to his fiancé Hailey's lesbian mothers. This dilemma is brought to Fiona's attention, and she already begins pondering on how to make this a sensational story and earn some money and being an expert at manipulation, she tries to severe the relation between Jerome and Hailey to make their situation appear more interesting.
To choose a theme like incest for comedy and then to have two people (Jerome and Hailey) appear like they are actually in a distressed state slackens the effect of comedy and makes the episode appear more dramatic. The main fault here was that the writers didn't write a script that would suit comedy and the actors, with the exception of Lisa, acted like real-life characters with real-life situations rather than giving the comedic edge to them. I have to refer to Meryl Streep's episode again because that was a point where Meryl gave us a freak that would make us believe that we are watching something funny. What would happen if Charlie Chaplin doesn't act like the persona he is on film and behaves like a regular guy? Would he make us laugh then, without that eccentric walking style and gestures? No, he wouldn't and that's something that actors need to understand while doing comedy. It doesn't mean the acting was bad; the three performed sincerely but added no flavor to their roles.
Also, Lisa Kudrow's acting is somewhat lackluster and one-dimensional and I think that's because she doesn't really understand the woman she needs to be. I think a woman like Fiona Wallice would've been better portrayed by Julie Bowen or Jennifer Aniston who would've had a better understanding about their character's natures Lisa makes Fiona look very unsympathetic and self-centered in a negative way rather than a humorous way; she has to give that edge to her character to draw out more humor.
The writing here is too stretched and jokes don't come very often; I was in dire need of a laugh track here, sorry. But I will tell that the show is a pleasant break and with better actors (bring some has-beens who still have it in them) and juicier writing, it's sure to win some awards.
My Rating: 3.9 out of 10
