Jack Couffer, the renowned cinematographer, writer, director, producer and naturalist who earned an Oscar nomination for his lensing of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, died at a skilled nursing facility on July 30. He was 96.
His son Mike Couffer confirmed the news in a recent Facebook post, in which he referred to his father as “the most important person in my life.”
Born on December 7, 1924 in Upland, California, Jack Couffer long looked to blend his interests in cinematography and natural history, also shooting films such as Secrets of Life, Edge of Fury, and The Savage Eye, along with 11 episodes of the series The Magical World of Disney.
Couffer also wrote and directed episodes of Magical World of Disney, along with films including The Legend of the Boy and the Eagle and Ring of Bright Water.
He also worked, over the course of his career, as a second unit director on 1985 classic Out of Africa and other titles,...

Irish director Conor McMahon (Stitches) continues to shoot horror. His latest title is called From the Dark. Mpi Media Group is developing this terrifying tale of a couple harassed on a road trip, on an Irish countryside. This title stas Niamh Algar, Stephen Cromwell and Gerry-o'Brien. The first still from the film is hosted here. Details on the film are being kept in mystery. However, the basic plot involves a young couple and a creature, which lives in and old bog. In the field of film 'The Guard' was the big winner of the night receiving the Ifta for Best Film, with writer/director John Michael McDonagh named Best Director, Best Screenwriter and the Irish Film Board Rising Star for his feature directorial debut. Fionnula Flannagan who was honoured with a lifetime achievement award also won best supporting actress for her part in 'The Guard'.
Michael Fassbender picked up best actor for 'Shame' while Saoirse Ronan picked up best actress for her role in 'Hanna.' Ryan Gosling picked up the best international actor for 'Drive,' Chris O'Dowd picked up best supporting actor for 'Bridesmaids', and Glenn Close picked up best international actress for 'Albert Nobbs.'

Shooting is underway on the set of the second series of the Ifta nominated comedy series, 'The Savage Eye'. Shooting in and around Dublin and Wicklow for the next five weeks and directed by Kieron J. Walsh (Raw), the series will see the return of Dave McSavage (Dental Breakdown) alongside his co-writer John Colleary (Touching People) and his fellow impressionists Pat McDonnell (Father Ted) and Dermot McMurrow (Emily's Song). Each week 'The Savage Eye' explores one subject in its entirety using vox pops from members of the public to inspire the comedy sketches and unflinching rants from numerous fictional characters. Produced by Katie Holly (One Hundred Mornings), the show's director of photography is Patrick Jordan (Croke Park Lives).

Irish comedian David McSavage's new project, 'The Savage Eye', begins a six-part run on Monday, November 23rd. The series aims to be a satirical and surreal examination of subjects close to the hearts of the Irish people such as the arts, property, sex and religion. The first episode will ask the question 'Why are the Irish so influential in the world of Arts?' 'The Savage Eye' takes the form of a fake anthropological documentary and features sketches performed by well known Irish actors and comedians, including David McSavage, Declan Rooney, Pat McDonnell, Eleanor Tiernan, Gerard McSorley, Liam Hourican, John Colleary and Dermot McMurrow.
