Great writing, plenty of personality
ciril-8604116 January 2021
I really loved this show. It doesn't go over the top, the teens communicate and make mistakes like so many of us as teens and in many ways grow much more in a short amount of time due to the situations they find themselves in. They are grappling with having their own strong ideals and trying to remain respectful of the beliefs of others. The characters are well written and the dialogue has a good balance of humour to give depth. It's so great to see the Chilean community represented in a show! The Chileans I've known have not been as dismissive of 'Aussies' as some of the characters in this show, but perhaps that was the experience the writers needed to add to create more tension. I saw the pisco there amigos! I definitely recommend you give this show a watch; I have encouraged my friends to watch it.

An honest look at awkward situations.
kme-194-4385584 January 2021
Some shows start with a bang then slowly fizzle out. Good shows are well written which build and improve as they go, this is one of them. It delivers many awkward situations and deals with them honestly, often making you cringe and laugh at the same time. It is brave, which will upset some, but this is it's strength, the writers and actors need to be commended for their skill. The best Australian show I've seen for a long time. I'm hooked, I can't wait for next season.

It is a beautiful story

Great character development and amazing soundtrack. The story is simple, but the story telling is superb, Oly is annoying at the beginning but her character ends being very human and relatable, all the characters are great!

Enjoyable, quirky, and poignant
little_miss_sunshine_4416 January 2021
Most of the low ratings are from ignorant right wing bigots who have their nickers in a knot that the main character is an outspoken feminist, and that the show as a whole is progressive and has a more diverse cast than what white Australian boomers are used to. Overall the show is easy to watch and very enjoyable, but also manages to be poignant and informative. As a young mother myself I related to many of olly's struggles and experiences. Excited for season 2!

It represents the Australia I know.
edieskylamiddleton24 January 2022
This is the Inner West I know. Everything from the diversity of the cast, to the issues that the teens and adults face is reminiscent of the Australia I have grown up in. So often these teen shows can represent many things that either don't happen or are blown way out of proportion. This show displays the financial, political, educational and other lifestyle factors that most young people struggle with today. Even the fashion is spot on! I enjoy the juxtaposition of the caring motherly Oly and the strong willed feminist Oly. The show isn't pushing anything political in my opinion it's just merely representing the opinions of most of Gen Z and it's does it accurately. I love seeing the adults struggles also, as it gives me something to juggle along with the teen narrative as a young adult. I feel like I am watching my own friend group with this show, they have nailed the varying personalities within a friend group. Whoever wrote this is seriously talented.

The first couple of episodes I was unsure, but I kept going and by the end I really loved it. Loved seeing the Sydney skyline too, made me homesick.

What a surprise!

Unexpectedly loved these characters. Quickly transforms from a novelty into an exploration of socio-cultural biases so relevant and so real in Australia today. Can't wait for season 2!

Enjoyable series, great supporting characters
alexandersloan12 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
An enjoyable series with well rounded characters and and great supporting cast. Karvan and Sampson in particular put in compelling and entertaining performances as Oly's mother and father.

My enjoyment of the series was somewhat hampered by the main character, Oly. Oly is an ungrateful, self righteous know-it-all in a way that is not uncharacteristic of a teenager. As the main character however these traits grated on me, especially in the last few episodes.

An Aussie gem, Bump is made up of talented actors, a great and sometimes relatable storyline and a fantastic balance of comedy and drama. There's no way you won't watch it until the end!

Binge-Worthy Hate Watch?
iSkiDV24 May 2023
In some ways, this show is interesting and vaguely entertaining. In other areas it seems next to impossible to know whether or not the writers are serious or whether they're completely taking the mick and laughing at Gen Z and their obsession(s) with pronouns, feminism, climate change, etc.

The good is that it is a rather raw and reasonable look at teen parenthood. Some aspects seem unrealistic (taking your baby to school and keeping them with you in every class?) however, it's also possible that Australia actually allows that.

The bad is the over the top commentary about every single uber liberal issue there is right now. It's not enough to have say, a gay character, they have to have multiple, including areas where it veers wildly off course from anything resembling a real life circle of friends. Then again, if people are surrounding themselves with an echo chambers, maybe that's not far off.

The acting is solid from all involved. Some of the statements are so cheesy and cringe-worthy, I honestly can't imagine any actors who would do better. In that sense, the cast are impressive.

The one part of this show I can't get past and in turn, hate watch, are the reminders of everything that has made Twitter such an utterly irritating space. Pronouns and all of that nonsense being inserted seemingly at random points feels contrived and forced. The story would be the same were it not there, so why is it? If it doesn't do anything to further a story, it needs to go.

This is a show I would never purchase or watch multiple times, but when I've watched every other show on iPlayer & need something that isn't utter garbage/reality TV, this works. It has a lot of strong points, but the negatives and contrived talking points take away from Bump. All in all, I'd still recommend the watch.

OIly was a Spoilt Brat

Olly had no idea about single parenthood and was a spoilt child. I watched the show but found the main character quite annoying and unlikable. She lacked compassion for anyone but herself

This is the type of series that is hard to stop at just one episode! Sucked me in from the first episode and I binge watched this over a few days!

I really hope there's a second season.

Quite good, actually!
wendywooto2 November 2021
All of the reviews that are critizing the young woman, who plays the teen mum, make me laugh. She's playing exactly who she's supposed to. She's a teenager who's hormones are normal, and is behaving as most teens do at that age, plus she has massive hormonal changes due to having a baby. Mix the 2 together, and add a dysfunctional family, boyfriend issues with the baby's dad, the dad's family, cultural differences, school, and confusion to adapting to being a new mum, and the acting is actually perfect!

You don't have a single idea what it could be like! If you did, you would be able to empathise with her, somewhat! 😉👍 I do know, and do empathise with the main character!

Brilliant and disappointing
Iaintnosnowdrop17 August 2023
I loved the first two series. In fact after series one I couldn't wait until series two. The characters were perfect. Annoying and loveable in equal measures depending on the story arc. The cast was joyously diverse. In a not forced on you way. They were funny, relevant and perfectly cast.

The whole thing was a great premise and really well acted. Now for the gets worse.....

I really didn't expect series three. I thought it was tied up nicely at the end of two. Obviously I was curious so I gave it a go. The sudden time line jump and turn of events with no explanation in between was confusing. The characters were taken in an extreme caricature direction. It was just annoying. They were annoying. They were missing key characters and replaced by unlikable ones.

Anyway, that's just me. I lasted two episodes and sadly gave up. I expected more. Seven stars for the first two series. None got the third.

The Australian film industry isn't that big compared to some other countries, but this series allowed a glimpse into what the future for Australian film could look like - and wow that future is looking bright!

It just pulls you with those heart strings.
Jemae5 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What I enjoyed about this serious is that it was easy to sit down and watch. And it ended up being better than I originally thought, based off the trailer. The first episodes just hits you when Oly gives her first reaction to giving birth. All her struggles and her feelings were similar to when I became a mum. Especially the moment in the toilets when her breasts are leaking and she was emotional over it all. I definitely cried a little, knowing those similar feelings. I loved how this series made you feel like Oly, the writing in that aspect was great.

I also found it interesting to have a Spanish Australian family be some of the main characters. You don't often get to see Spanish Australians on TV or at least in my experience.

A couple of things that I felt lacked in the writing, were with Jacinda's grandparents. It felt rather sudden that Dom magically knew who his wife had been messing around with and Matias' wife somehow guessed who he had an affair with. How those character's came to those conclusions are unknown to me and there was no natural way of coming to that.

Another thing that I came to dislike was the constant feminist rhetoric, I didn't mind it but I felt like they may have over used it but I also understand why because that's who the main character is.

If you've already seen the first episode you would have heard Oly say "Breast is best" when she feeds her daughter. That quote makes me uncomfortable because no one should be pushed to believe breast is best and feel forced like they HAVE to breast feed if they don't want too. A better line in my opinion to use would be "Fed is Best".

I would recommend watching this series, it's fun, it emotionally draws you in, the characters are relatable and it's easy to watch. Screen NSW & Stan did a great job. So if you're after a series that has all of the above, definitely check it out.

Bump!
mavis_gary_mavis5 January 2022
A fun, comedic sitcom with a solid dramatic premise - an unexpected pregnancy complicates the lives of two families - that delivers laughs and heart. Claudia Karvan anchors a diverse cast (it's not often you see the Chilean community represented on screen in Australia) who all do a good job. Handsome productions values help set it apart. I'm not surprised Bump was a hit for streaming service Stan.

Easy binge watch
cqtiger-5141529 December 2021
Couldnt stand the Oly character so spoilt and full of herself. Season 2 at least introduced some new characters even if they went overboard with every ethnic and sexual orientation group represented.

Easy watch with the 30 min episodes. Larvae great as usual.

Series 4 - disappointing
vickirogers-256632 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
For the record, I really enjoyed series 1-3. Y Season 4, however...WTF?

The characters and plotlines have always threatened to veer into self-indulgence from time to time, but the writers always managed to right its course. In season 4, I can't find any redeeming qualities in any of the characters. Oly has always been a character I have struggled to like, but in comparison with the other characters this season, she's a veritable delight. Angie, Oly's mum, has devolved into a tree-hugging, self-involved loon, and Reema and Vince's love story, which had so much promise at the end of season 3, has turned into a union seemingly destined for the dustbin.

I don't know what has happened to the writing; it is pedestrian, directionless and lecturing. I don't think I can make it past episode 3.

Someone screwed up
katrina-caldwell5 January 2021
I'm loving this show and as usual I end up on IMBD to check what I've seen the actors in before, they have the role of Bernadita ( the grandmother ) listed as being played by supermodel Claudia Schiffer lol.

Great show if your looking for something light hearted and entertaining, I'm hoping there will be a season 2
