MORPH at last
Sleepin_Dragon9 August 2015
Finally, we get to see my childhood favourites, Alex is watching TV, Tony Hart to be precise, she turns away, and Morph talks to her, talk about waiting for Morph to appear. Superb start to this episode, loved it. Gene and Alex visit a Prison where Shaun Evans character 'Hales' from the first episode of this series is dead. The team are called in to investigate Animal rights protesters on the eve of a bill being passed, six bomb attacks are planned. Gene and Alex go to visit Robin Elliot, in the Prison where Hales has died, he is superbly portrayed by class act David Bradley. This is a very topical episode which asks a lot of deep questions, Hawes and Bradley play out some brilliant scenes together, they both get under each others skin. I've been impressed with the diversity of each episode, no episode has yet felt repetitive. This far on and everything is still fresh, and new. Alex receives a rose at the end again, who's it from?

A bit disappointing after the good quality of late. A good twist in the tale and the odd good tune from the era.

The joy of Gene Hunt

Warning: Spoilers
The fact that this series of 'Ashes' is having one story line run throughout the whole eight episodes in (as well as Alex's own story) is a plus and a minus.

Yes, it rewards fans who watch every week, but I'd imagine that people watching the show back in 2009 who for whatever reason missed an episode would come back in feeling a little bit lost.

It's another good episode though, again perhaps boosted by the guest actors coming in. We see Gene Hunt at his un PC best, and there's some movement on the Chris/Shaz story too.

This second series of 'Ashes' feels a bit more assured.
