Ashleigh Banfield is sticking with NewsNation.
On Wednesday, the Nexstar Media Group-owned cable news channel said it had successfully negotiated a multi-year extension of Banfield’s contract, which will keep her eponymous prime-time conversation program on NewsNation for a while longer.
Banfield was one of NewsNation’s first hires, back when the channel was still operating under its previous branding, WGN America. She took over a slot occupied by a nightly news program in prime-time, vowing to resurrect the conversation-style chat show made popular by Charlie Rose and Larry King (CNN).
“I’m an avid news junkie,” Banfield said in an interview with Variety. “Something that’s been missing for me as a consumer has been the center lane — I’m exhausted by the breathless fights in cable news, and I long for the days when I could just be informed of what was...

Satellite audio firm SiriusXM is trimming its global workforce by about 3% in an effort to become “more efficient, agile, and flexible,” CEO Jennifer Witz wrote in a memo to employees.
The company last year unveiled a significant revamp of its app and has made a series of talent deals in a push into podcasts.
“We made significant progress on the transformation of our business in 2023, but we have just begun to scratch the surface of what is possible here at SiriusXM,” Witz wrote in the memo. “To continue on our path to future subscriber growth and sustain our company’s success as the competitive landscape evolves, it’s imperative that we become even more efficient, agile, and flexible. Therefore, today we are making several organizational changes, including the difficult decision to eliminate certain roles, which will allow us to move faster and collaborate more effectively in support of our long-term objectives.

SiriusXM has signed a wide-ranging deal with SmartLess Media and its founders, Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes.
The three-year pact will see flagship podcast SmartLess shift to SirirusXM. Media outlets including Bloomberg reported the deal is worth $100 million, a step up from what Amazon had been paying to host SmartLess, an interview show that has become one of the most popular weekly podcasts in existence since launching in 2020. HBO also turned it into a docuseries, filming Arnett, Bateman and Hayes as they took part in a live tour for the podcast.
In addition to the namesake podcast, select other SmartLess Media titles will also change addresses when the deal kicks in this summer. SiriusXM subscribers will gain early access to new episodes of SmartLess as well as Just Jack & Will, Bad Dates and Owned, plus the opportunity to be in the live audience for special tapings. Taylor Swift is celebrating her newfound status as Spotify’s Global Top Artist with a surprise of her own: The massively popular singer-songwriter has just officially released the previously hard-to-find fan favorite song “You’re Losing Me.”
The song, now widely available on streaming services, is the latest of Swift’s “from the vault” releases – tracks that didn’t make her official studio albums. “You’re Losing Me,” which Swift co-wrote with producer Jack Antonoff, was initially released last May only on the “Late Night Edition” CD of Swift’s 2022 album Midnights and in a digital version exclusively at her web store.
This morning, Swift posted on X/Twitter, “Um ok this is unreal?? I just wanted to say to anyone who listened to my music this year, anywhere in the world, thank you. Getting named Spotify’s Global Top Artist in 2023 is truly the best birthday/holiday gift you could’ve given me.

It’s hard to watch characters as aggressively inconsistent and generally stupid as Ava and Nathan Bartlett for a whole season. The two leads of Craig Rosenberg’s new Peacock thriller/comedy make dumb decision after dumb decision, and most of them, well, don’t ring true. The show may be called “Based on a True Story,” but it’s a strikingly false venture, a toothless mocking of true-crime obsession with nothing to say about the success of shows like “My Favorite Murder” and “Crime Junkie” beyond their existence.

Aidy Bryant is set to star in “Lonely Hearts Club,” a dramedy series based on an episode of the Crime Junkies podcast, currently in the works at Peacock. “Beau Is Afraid” filmmaker Ari Aster is executive producing the project.
Set in the late 1940s, “Lonely Hearts Club” is described as a darkly comedic true crime thriller about a lonely woman who falls in love with a dim but handsome con man. Together they form an unlikely “Loser-Bonnie-and-Clyde”-style partnership that ends in lies, murder and the electric chair.
The show is based on an episode of Ashley Flowers’ Crime Junkie podcast entitled “Infamous: The ‘Lonely Hearts’ Killers.”
Bryant is re-teaming with Rob Klein, former head writer of “Saturday Night Live” and executive producer on Bryant’s Hulu series “Shrill,” for the project. Klein and Bryant will write and executive produce “Lonely Hearts Club.” Ashley Flowers and Kevin Mills are...

Audio entertainment company SiriusXM reported fourth-quarter results that were largely in line with Wall Street expectations, with total revenue of about 2.3 billion and earnings per share of 9 cents.
The company also adding 348,000 self-paying subscribers in the period. On a conference call with analysts, CEO Jennifer Witz, said average revenue per user hit a record high in 2022, while churn (the percentage of subscribers canceling) set a record low. She called that combination “a reflection of subscribers’ high satisfaction with the premium listening experience we continue to evolve and enhance.”
Wall Street had expected revenue of 2.3 billion and earnings of 8 cents a share.
The company issued 2023 financial guidance, including revenue of 9 billion. That would be flat with 2022.
Investors reacted negatively to the quarterly report and full-year outlook, sending shares in Sirius down almost 6 in early trading at around 5.50. They have recently slipped to their lowest level since 2020.
