Poor Steve. He's right: he's always been hanging in there for them, and Miranda's the one who's always reaching for something more. It's heartbreaking when he says he's too old to rally for them again. David Eigenberg does a masterful job in this scene, understated and all the more powerful because of it.
My guess is that Miranda has just been set up for a disaster: she's leaving the man who says he just wants her to be happy for someone who has specifically said they can't give her "traditional" (which, I suspect, means "monogamy"). There's no way this ends well for her.
The double standard is interesting: the women all freaked out in the movie when Steve had a single indiscretion, but nobody's mentioned that now, when Miranda's having a full-blown love affair.
