It's been rumored for a little while, but now we have word from The Guardian that Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey will play Randall Flagg in director Josh Boone's big screen adaptation of The Stand.
The Stand was written by bestselling author Stephen King. It tells the story of the survivors of a global flu like epidemic known as Captain Trips and they're battle against evil forces led by Flagg.
Here's a synopsis from Barnes & Noble:
Stephen King’s apocalyptic vision of a world blasted by plague and tangled in an elemental struggle between good and evil remains as riveting and eerily plausible as when it was first published.A patient escapes from a biological testing facility, unknowingly carrying a deadly weapon: a mutated strain of super-flu that will wipe out 99 percent of the world’s population within a few weeks. Those who remain are scared, bewildered, and in need of a leader.

If you thought the Grounders were bad, just wait until you meet the residents of Mount Weather—at least that’s how Clarke feels when The 100 returns for its second season. Desperate to escape her cell in the underground bunker that houses the Mountain Men, Clarke will go to great lengths to find out if her people are alive. "The arc of season 1 was really great because you start with Clarke in a cell and end with Clarke in a cell," Eliza Taylor tells EW from within the walls of Mount Weather up on the Vancouver set. "The difference...

Leslie Jordan has been voted 'Star of the Show' by Big Brother app users.
The Will & Grace actor was deemed to have been the most entertaining housemate so far and was given the power to send two fellow housemates to the Celebrity Scrap Heap.
Leslie chose to banish Angelique 'Frenchy' Morgan and Gary Busey to the grim Garden residence, where they will have to change into jumpsuits and will no longer have access to their beds or suitcases.
The Rock of Love star and the Point Break actor will remain in seclusion over the weekend, and instead of enjoying meals, will be fed minimal scraps from a scrap bucket.
After Leslie had made his decision, Big Brother informed him that he would have to select other housemates to be thrown on the Scrap Heap as the weekend progressed.

With summer officially upon us and most of television’s hottest shows on hiatus until the fall, it’s time to check back in with our fang-banging friends down in Bon Temps, that pesky little town where vampires, werewolves, witches and a hodgepodge of other supernatural creatures run amok. It’s been an absolutely crazy run for this little guilty pleasure, but True Blood is getting the true death after this year, and judging by the season seven premiere, it’s going to be one hell of a farewell.
We’ve seen all kinds of mystical and supernatural tragedies and sexual encounters befall the likes of Sookie Stackhouse and her friends, but the show is going back to its roots a bit this year. Gone are the Warlows and Liliths of the world, replaced by “Hep-v” infected vampires out for one thing and one thing only: fresh blood. By shifting...

Here's a breakdown of the season, if you missed it previously: It's been over 300 years since the Salem witch trials. Those who remain are almost extinct and in danger again. A school has opened in New Orleans to teach protection to the young. The long-absent...

It's a Monday night with occasional downpours, but the steamy weather and the chance to view Andy Warhol's rarely screened tribute to the underground legend, poet, and actor Taylor Meade's posterior has the crowd, composed mainly of artsy gayboys, both young and old, lining up en masse in the lobby of the Museum of Modern Art.
A murmur of true excitement, amidst the chatter about organic art exhibits and mild flirtations, greets the ear as the flip-floppers are ushered into the Sculpture Garden. Instantly, stylized composure is disposed of as there's a mad rush for seats with an unobstructed view. Those who lose out on the "Musical Chairs Grab" wind up sitting on steps, which actually proffer a better sight line.
This highly social event, by the way, was organized into being by several bright-eyed cultural-mavens-in-the-making. Sophie Cavoulacos, the Curatorial Assistant in the Department of Film (Moma), has...

A decent 69th Venice film festival has served up an eclectic mix, from Terrence Malick's quest for God to Paul Thomas Anderson's potent drama about a blustering cult leader
Inside the main cinema at the Venice film festival the screen hosts a languid drift of evening shadows and world-weary bison. "What is this love that loves you?" inquires the murmurous voiceover. "Where are we when we're here?" I don't think it's the bison speaking but, as ever with the work of Terrence Malick, it's hard to say for sure.
To the Wonder arrives midway through this year's event. It comes tipped as a festival highlight, another masterpiece from the American visionary, but it catches the delegates in a scratchy mood and they send it off with a chorus of boos. It seems that there is no film disaster more spectacular than the movie that overreaches itself; the one...

Mexico City -- The Mexican film De Panzazo raked in $870,000 on its opening weekend and pulled off an impressive feat for a locally-produced documentary: it outperformed several Oscar contenders. Photos: Academy Awards 2012: The Winners Directed by Juan Carlos Rulfo (Those Who Remain) and narrated by Televisa news anchor Carlos Loret de Mola, the Michael Moore-style De Panzazo (literally translated as "barely passing") denounces Mexico's education system and its flawed teachers union. Opening on 200-plus screens Friday, the film went on over the weekend to beat out Academy Award winner The Artist and best

How will The Vampire Diaries conclude season two? What cliffhanger will leave fans dying for its September return?
This is the question we've posed to fans during the show's current hiatus. We've already posted a pair of hypothetical scenarios - posited Here and Here - and now we're excited to present another take, courtesy of reader Shira Rosenblatt. What do you make of this storyline?
Almost all of the pieces of the puzzle are in place: Klaus has the doppelganger, a witch, a werewolf, a vampire and the moonstone. The Salvatore brothers are restrained by his minions. All that is missing is the final piece...
“What are you waiting for?” asks Elena of Klaus. “You got what you wanted – you have everything you need to break the curse and allow vampires to roam free and keep werewolves chained to the moon. Do it already.”
“Break the curse?” Klaus retorts. “ You silly girl.

We may have watched some of these before, but we can watch them again on the big screen at the The State Theatre of Modesto. The Modesto Film Society and others have sponsored movies from classic, to cult classics, independent and even musicals. The highlight of the line up is the Grease Sing-a-Long movie (it has the words captioned on the bottom like in karaoke). The State Theatre obtained the newly restored 35mm print that is only available in select theaters. They are hosting an interactive viewing; you can actually dress up as your favorite characters from the movie. So, break out the pink satin jackets and saddle shoes to compete for prizes. This movie would not really be a sing-a-long if you had to sit quietly and watch, so you can dance and sing in the aisles. If you are a fan of the movie this must be intriguing.
