Wrapping up our interviews leading up to the premiere of The Walking Dead Season 4, I recently had a chance to speak with Gale Anne Hurd. In the first of two-part feature, we discussed the development of the fourth season, including a push for more walkers and a bigger focus on character moments:
*Updated- Spoiler Warning* We’ve included additional comments that discuss the new threat and character deaths in the first two episodes.
Looking back at Season 3, what was something that you and the creative team wanted to improve when developing the fourth season?
Gale Anne Hurd: I think it’s really important to balance the epic action with more intimate character stories. That was really our focus. We have a few characters we introduced last season that didn’t figure as significantly into the stories as we would have liked. It was important that we got to know...

Two From Powell/Pressburger Criterion releases gorgeous new transfers of two of the greatest films to come out of post-war Britain, from that period’s greatest filmmaking team: Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Black Narcissus was originally released in 1947 and caused a sensation with its explosive story about a nun (Deborah Kerr), cloistered in a remote convent in the Himalayas, who must battle elements both external (the punishing weather) and internal (temptations of the flesh over duty to the spirit). Also features stellar turns by England’s greatest actresses at the time: Flora Robson, Kathleen Byron and a young Jean Simmons. One of the most dazzling films ever made, bolstered by Oscar-winning cinematography from Jack Cardiff. Bonuses: New transfer, supervised by Cardiff, editor Thelma Schoonmaker Powell; Introduction by filmmaker Bernard Tavernier; Commentary by Powell and Martin Scorsese; Featurettes; Documentaries and interviews; Trailer. Though many names have been added to the ever growing list of talent that will be fending off the flesh eaters in Frank Darabont's adaptation of the Robert Kirkman zombie epic The Walking Dead, one role and player has been kind of elusive to track down. Until now.
Dread Central has learned exclusively today that young Chandler Riggs (The Wronged Man, Get Low) has signed on to play the role of Carl Grimes, Rick's son. Those fans familiar with this character know just how pivotal he is to the story, and we're confident Darabont has made sure that the young lad has the chops to pull it off!
The Walking Dead is based on Robert Kirkman's popular comic series. It chronicles the months and years following a zombie apocalypse. Frank Darabont is the project's writer, sometimes director, and exec producer with Anne Hurd and David Alpert also exec producing.

Julia Ormond and Mahershalalhashbaz Ali star in the Lifetime Movie Network (Lmn) presentation The Wronged Man. The film, which is based on a true story, tells how one woman fought for years to free a man wrongly accused of rape. This is one of the best original movies Lmn has ever featured and its story will impress and touch audiences around the country. Prissy Gregory (Ormond) was working as a paralegal/secretary for a lawyer in Louisiana when she first heard of the case of Calvin Willis (Ali). Her employer told her it was a case full of injustices and she found that to be true. From that point on Prissy did everything she could to work to have Willis exonerated. It was not until years later when DNA testing became possible that Willis was finally set free from prison. He had served...
