This is a CW series and the emphasis is on glitz and intrigue. So why Tom Swift? Any inventive billionaire would have sufficed and to take a well established character and completely transform them into something else entirely seems... a reach? Done for just the name recognition? Amusing shout out to "Mayor Pete" from Tom's mother.

Fast paced and bold

The show is fast paced--never a dull moment for me. I like how unapologetically black it is. Many shows use black people as ornaments, never addressing their race or their culture--as if us Black people don't have to deal with a toxic world that wants us NOT to be proud of our blackness. We literally had laws and toxic programming to be ashamed of it. I love how this show does not shy away from what it's trying to represent: black excellence. This show lets people know its bold and goes against the typical stereotypes for the black community. Goes against heteronormative norms too. For a pilot, I really enjoyed it and can't wait to see more episodes.
Why destroy old beloved characters?

I do not see why CW, Netflix and Apple have to take characters from old books and totally destroy them? If there is a desire for diversity, then create NEW characters and new ideas. Or, does Hollywood not have the creativity today to create innovative new characters? Or, is destruction part of the plan? Foundation is another mini-series with little connection to the original.
