It may have been a quiet Sunday in the Nashville suburb of Franklin, Tennessee, but Tim McGraw had Main Street rocking with an intimate performance last night. The multi-platinum country artist celebrated the release of his 13th studio album Sundown Heaven Town at Gray's on Main, surrounded by a small crowd of music industry friends. "We live in a town with great talent," the singer said to the crowd. "To go into the studio and sink my teeth into some of these songs … it makes me proud. At the end of the day, as an artist who records other people's music,...

Five Surprisingly Racist Movies About Civil Rights The Help isn't the first movie to turn civil rights into a story about nice white people. By Phil Nugent The Help is a new movie about the relationship between sassy young Mississippi white girl Emma Stone and her colored maids, and how such relationships affected the struggle for racial equality; it promises to be one more movie about how important the civil rights movement was for all those courageous white people. Hollywood has been using the fight against race discrimination as story fodder for decades now, and sometimes, they've managed to get it more wrong than seems humanly possible. 1. Hurry, Sundown (1967) Director Otto Preminger's contribution to the civil rights cause was this stern indictment of a racist South, which was itself indicted by critics and audiences for its retrograde depiction of eye-popping, childishly innocent blacks who just want [...]...

In an era where most rock bands are about as edgy as the latest Ark Music Factory teen-sensation-in-a-box, Tennessee hell-raisers Kings of Leon have often stood out as a throwback to a messier era.
The band of brothers (and cousin) raised by a Pentecostal preacher rose from humble beginnings to their current status as one of the biggest rock bands on the planet thanks to dark, moody songs, good genes (and jeans) and a well-established reputation as boozing, brawling ladies' men who've been only somewhat tamed by rock stardom.
In recent times, it seemed as if those hellion days were behind them, as one by one the Followill boys have gotten engaged, married or into serious relationships and talked about dialing back the partying.
Questions were raised, though, over the weekend when the...

New York — With red smoke, a clean, metallic set and a crowd as varied as their albums, the Kings of Leon launched into a 22-song set at Madison Square Garden Tuesday night with "Mary," a song from their new album, Come Around Sundown.
The Kings then took a very full (though not quite sold-out) crowd on a two-song trip back to earlier times with "Crawl" and "Molly's Chambers" before crooning this summer's single, "Radioactive," a song that sounds perfect in an arena. From there, they continued to weave the best of their raw beginnings, sing-along hits from the hugely successful Only by the Night and new tracks from Sundown.
The crowd was a mix of 30-something professionals,...

Kings of Leon continue their reign at the top of the UK album chart with latest release Come Around Sundown. The Tennessee rock band maintained pole position as a new version of Michael Bublé's Crazy Love, and new releases in the form of Joe McElderry's Wide Awake and The Wanted's self-titled album, failed to outperform them. Three more albums also made their debut within the top ten, as Taylor Swift's Speak Now arrives at six, Barbra Streisand lands at eight with The Ultimate Collection and The Soldiers, a group of British Army personnel, settle in at ten with Letters Home. Elsewhere on the chart, Elton John and Leon Russell's The Union lands at 12, while Bryan Ferry manages to sneak into the top 20 with this week's number 19, Olympia. Meanwhile, The Beatles (more)...

Having seen Kings of Leon six times in concert, I thought I had the Followill brothers all figured out, but apparently I couldn't have been more wrong. One half of the Tennessee-based rock band (brothers Caleb and Jared Followill) paid a visit to the MTV Newsroom for a conversation with Rock Editor James Montgomery yesterday, and I was prepared to be disappointed. After all, I had a certain perception of the band, and seeing how they really were made me nervous. (Thankfully, I was wrong about that too.)
Instead, they reminded me why their albums dominate my iPod, why I spin them every morning on my commute, why I sacrificed a pair of gorgeous Gucci shoes for some concert tickets and why they are clearly in for the long haul in a tumultuous music industry landscape.
The brothers' usually quiet demeanor dropped when they admitted that...

It wasn’t that surprising when Tennessee quartet Kings Of Leon became superstars with their fourth LP, Only By The Night—they’d always had a knack for hooky songs with big riffs and stadium-filling backbeats—but it was disappointing that they crossed over with such a straight-ahead rock record, free of the experimental edge that made Aha Shake Heartbreak and Because Of The Times so exciting. Kings Of Leon’s fifth album, Come Around Sundown, is just as much of a crowd-pleaser as Only By The Night, but the four Followills bring back more of the chasing-a-whim personality of ...

Caleb Followill, the lead singer of Kings of Leon, is now engaged. A rep for the band has confirmed to People that the 28-year-old rocker has proposed to his Victoria's Secret model girlfriend Lily Aldridge, whom he has dated for the past two years.
The rep, however, hasn't announced any wedding date yet. Caleb will follow the footsteps of his bandmate and brother Nathan Followill, who wed American singer-songwriter Jessie Baylin on November 14, 2009 in Brentwood, Tennessee at the Wolf Den Farm.
Their personal life aside, Caleb and Nathan, along with bandmates Jared Followill and Matthew Followill, recently released a music video for their new song "Radioactive". The track is the first single from their new album "Come Around Sundown", which is scheduled to hit U.S. shelves on October 19.

It's a sad day for the female fans of Kings Of Leon. Lead singer Caleb Followill is officially one step closer to being a married man. It seems he put a ring on it when he asked his girlfriend of two years, Lily Aldridge, to marry him.
His rep confirmed the engagement to People.com. Aldridge appeared in the band's "Use Somebody" music video. Followill is the latest Kings of Leon member to make plans to get hitched. Bandmate Nathan Followill got married last November to singer Jessie Baylin in an outdoor ceremony in Brentwood, Tennessee.
While it appears that Caleb has been relatively mum about his love life, Nathan has been candid about the band's less-than-discerning views on love prior to their committed relationships.

Kings of Leon have featured exploding buildings ("Notion") and fast-paced montages of sold-out concert venues ("Use Somebody") in their videos, but for their newest, they take a more laid-back approach. The band released the sepia-tone video for "Radioactive" on Wednesday (September 8) on their website, KingsofLeon.com, and it finds the Kings at a Southern-style summer barbecue.
The band substitutes beer and cigarettes for sodas and pie as a youth choir is seen backing the band throughout the song. "It's in the water/ It's where you came from," lead vocalist Caleb Followill belts out on the track's chorus.
