Douglas
Felix Dexter was known for his stand up routines of posh sounding black characters.
Dexter also had a law degree and trained to become a barrister.
Broadcast in 1996 as a pilot for a comedy series that was not picked up.
Dexter plays public school educated barrister Douglas Obasanjo. He is very uptight and English. He also tries to connect with his young black clients by unsuccessfully speaking street slang.
The episode was at its best when Douglas is talking to the young man who has been arrested.
It was less successful when it dealt with Douglas and his girlfriend. Especially when it moved to her parents house. Douglas was meant to join them for dinner but he got arrested for not displaying a train ticket as his wallet got mislaid.
I am sure Dexter wanted to make a satirical barb on how a young professional black man who speaks the Queen's English is treated just like any other black man by the police. It just got lost because some of the writing of this sitcom was a little clunky.
