What a Letdown
Man, this one was just kinda boring. It tries to be a James Bond and Indiana Jones hybrid, which could work, but doesn't here.
I think sometimes, Jackie Chan misunderstands why people go to see his movies. We don't want these super intricate plots and dramatic scenarios, we just like to see Jackie do his thing. That's why his archaeology and adventure movies never work for me. Besides just aping Indiana Jones, they're too into their own boring stories.
Like this film, for instance. It's never very interesting. The plot was hard to follow, and I didn't at all care about the adventure parts. They spent way too much time on that without tons of action.
I give this two stars because of the action scenes that are there. That opening with the full body skating suit thing was cool, and very James Bond. There were one or two fun fight scenes, though not very long. There is one excellent fight. It starts between Jackie and another dude and jumps into a long fight between Jackie and tons of guys. It almost saved the movie for me, and it's one of my favorite Chan fights. There's also a cool climax in which Jackie skydives and fights some bad guys in the air. Again, while all these scenes were cool, they are spaces out, and in between them is a super bogged down plot.
I can't exactly recommend it, but Chan fans will enjoy the one fight scene.
