Exclusive: Maria Shriver has signed with CAA for representation. The agency will now help to identify opportunities for the Peabody and multiple Emmy Award-winning journalist, and for her company Shriver Media, through unscripted and scripted television content, film, summits—like her recent Sounds True collaboration, Radically Reframing Aging—and podcasting. CAA will also pursue opportunities in the publishing space for her digital outlet The Sunday Paper and her Penguin Random House imprint The Open Field, while repping Shriver for speaking engagements.
Shriver is a seven-time New York Times bestselling author, NBC News Special Anchor, and the founder of both The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement at the Cleveland Clinic and Shriver Media, a for-benefit media enterprise that produces documentary films, summits and The Sunday Paper. In addition, she is the co-founder, with her son Patrick, of the mission-driven brain health and wellness brand, Mosh. A portion of the proceeds from...

Maria Shriver may not be a television news regular these days, but her interest in the world around her hasn't lessened.
The NBC News special correspondent and former California first lady likely would contend it only has increased, given her role in such initiatives as "The Alzheimer's Project" -- the award-winning HBO documentary largely inspired by the experience of Shriver's late father, politician and activist Sargent Shriver, with the disease -- and her recently issued Shriver Report subtitled "A Woman's Nation Pushes Back From the Brink," about women and children living on the poverty line in modern America.
Related to the report is "Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life & Times of Katrina Gilbert," a documentary Shriver executive produced for HBO, where it debuts Monday, March 17 (and then will be offered free for the next week at HBO.com, ShriverReport.org and YouTube.com). It follows a single mother of three in Chattanooga,...

We have a network brawl, a first look roar and a "Real Housewife" who'll actually admit to being scripted. All in store for you in Wednesday's (Jan. 26) serving of TV Snacks.
In the battle of the Brit remakes, Syfy is serving up the high tea. At 2.14 million total viewers, its second episode of "Being Human" attracted more eyes than MTV's American "Skins," and Syfy isn't afraid to tell you so. Despite the controversy it has garnered, the MTV show fell from its premiere's 3.3 million viewers to just 1.6. [TVByTheNumbers]
Fans of the 80s cartoon, "Thundercats," you do know that Cartoon Network is doing a reboot, right? If not, you do now and writer Todd Casey tweeted the first official photo. Does it make you roar? [Twitter]
Report: Sources say "The Real Housewives of New York's" resident royalty, the Countess LuAnn de Lesseps will be appearing in NBC's "Law & Order: Svu." She'll play a...

"Anvil! The Story of Anvil," the account of an obscure Canadian heavy metal band, will square off against four more seriously themed documentaries at the 2009 Ida Awards.
The other contenders in the feature category, announced Thursday by the International Documentary Assn., are "Afghan Star," about finalists in an Afghanistan version of "American Idol"; "Diary of a Times Square Thief," about the search for a mysterious diary; "Food, Inc.," which examines the U.S. food industry; and "Mugabe and the White African," the story of a fifth-generation white African farmer.
Eligible films had to be completed, released or broadcast by July 30, so a number of docs, released in the second half of the year such as Michael Moore's "Capitalism: A Love Story" did not qualify for consideration.
The winners will be saluted Dec. 4 at the DGA in Los Angeles at a ceremony hosted by "This American Life's" Ira Glass.

As 78 million American baby boomers age, the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease will skyrocket. Economically, it has the potential to bankrupt an already fragile health care system. Socially, we have yet to overcome much of the stigma associated with it. In terms of basic knowledge and research, Alzheimer's is progressive, it is fatal, and there is currently no cure for it. Despite these sobering facts, great progress is being made in the discovery of Alzheimer's causes and treatments. This progress must continue. To ensure that critical research funding becomes and remains a priority, we must all raise awareness about this disease. We must hear from even more Alzheimer advocates, including people living with the disease, their friends and family, public servants, celebrities and the entertainment industry. This year, HBO Documentary Films and First Lady of California Maria Shriver were on...
