Magnum and Higgins help graduate student Chloe Dawson, whom Kumu hired to work in the cultural center when a tracking device discovered in her car's wheel suggests someone is stalking her. The P.I.s determining the tracker was planted by a man named Braydon Marshall and look for him only to find him dead in the trunk of a car, rented by Henry Sellers. He is adopted Chloe's biological father, whom she was told had died 22 years ago, actually returned to Hawaii to check up on Chloe following the death of her mother. Now his past as a Russian spy has caught up with him, turning kidnapping Chloe into the ideal bargaining chip for ruthless FSB agents Mikhail Kozlov and Andrei Tarasov, who aren't satisfied with the agreed ransom. Doc Ethan Shah suddenly forgives Juliet's secrecy about her past, finding he can't bear the thought of losing her, hence invites Juliet to accompany him on his trip to Kenya, and after some deliberation, she accepts, encouraged by Thomas, who doesn't want to stand in love's way.
