Good story, fine acting.

On the night of a student ball, a young girl goes missing, fellow student Talitha is arrested, she's obnoxious, unpleasant, entitled, and treats the whole thing like a joke.

I quite enjoyed it, family members have said it's boring, I'd dispute that, I think it's a very interesting, well presented mystery.

Credit to Celine Buckens, for making Talitha the most interesting thing about this first episode, she's a detestable character, but her acting is impressive, her smug glances and indifference have made her so interesting.

Some of the filming and production are a little basic, it's not the most imaginative thing you'll see, but it's not bad.

I'm keen to see how they're going to stretch it out over 5 hours, still a good start, 7/10.

7/10.

Praying for Her

The first episode of Showtrial does not do subtlety. It is filled with unlikeable characters.

University student Talitha Campbell (Celine Buckens) is arrogant, rich and privileged. Her father Damian knocked down a children's home, with the children still inside it.

Talitha is the prime suspect for the disappearance of fellow student Hannah Ellis. They had been feuding which makes her a target for venomous cop Paula Cassidy (Sinead Keenan.)

Cleo Roberts (Tracy Ifeachor) is the duty solicitor bought into defend Talitha and she takes no flack from her obnoxious client.

Talitha's father is circling with his powerful friends and lawyers.

This is a case that could lead to a press frenzy if Hannah is not found alive.

Writer Ben Richards wants to show the disparity and inequality between haves and the not haves in a divided Britain.

Talitha lacks empathy and shows a lot of bravado but she is lost when alone in her cell.

Going by the first episode it has to be a big red herring that she is the murderer. However there is little that is compelling so far.
