Bowen Yang had quite the emotional ride during his last day on the set of Wicked.
The actor sat down with People to promote the second season of his podcast, Hot White Heist. During the conversation, he opened up about the day he wrapped production on the film adaptation of the famous musical, in which he portrays Pfannee, one of Glinda’s (Ariana Grande) friends.
“Everyone was on this really crazy journey to make these movies, and everyone had different journeys, but I feel like mine was pretty intimately with every other student at Shiz [University], and that included most of the cast,” he told the publication. “My wrap day was really emotional. I got to see Michelle Yeoh, and that was really special.”
He explained that there was a moment right before they finished filming when he looked around and was overcome with a sense of excitement and honor to...

Beloved Scottish actor Alan Cumming, it turns out, almost had a role in the Harry Potter cinematic universe. He recently told The Telegraph (via The Independent) how, when producers on 2002’s “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” offered him a major role in the franchise as Hogwarts professor Gilderoy Lockhart, he told them to “f*ck off” due to disputes over his salary. (The role of Lockhart ultimately went to Kenneth Branagh.)
“I didn’t turn it down,” Cumming said. “I told them to f*ck off!”
Cumming also revealed that he was competing with Rupert Everett, with whom he shared the same agent, for the role. “They wanted me and Rupert Everett to do a screen test, and they said they couldn’t pay me more than a certain sum, they just didn’t have any more money in the budget,” Cumming said.

Since joining SNL three years ago as a staff writer and then cast member — the show’s first full-Asian series regular — Bowen Yang has managed to stage a subtle millennial coup by queering the late-night comedy staple, bringing in hordes of new fans who are eager to scream “Yasss!” to his takes on everything from North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un to a thirsty SoulCycle instructor. If you don’t like the media you’re seeing, make your own. That’s been writer/director Adam Goldman’s abiding career philosophy, and so far it’s served him well. Goldman was the creative force behind “The Outs,” a slick and witty gay web series that premiered on Vimeo in 2012, then released a second season in 2016. Cleverly conceived and punching way above its budget, “The Outs” developed a rather highbrow following that included Alan Cumming, Bowen Yang, Michael Cyril Creighton, and John Cameron Mitchell — all of whom appeared in Season 2. Clearly, plenty of other people were hungry for smart content that reflected their lives.
The connection with Cumming proved quite fruitful: Goldman ended up writing jokes for the actor’s 2015 Tony Awards hosting gig and they’ve collaborated on multiple projects since. Their latest triumph is “Hot White Heist,” a fast-paced, high tension, delightfully ridiculous scripted podcast out on Audible today.
