Pretty fine intro to the terrorist attack, but nothing more
JurijFedorov5 January 2021
It's fine as it goes over the events. So we know how the terrorists arrived and who and what they attacked. It's a very short intro to the terrorist attack, but nothing more. While we get a few interviews and shots from the attacks it's very lacking on info. We are not told about anything post the attack. What changed? Who got sued? Did India change their police forces or can it still take 3 days to attack and kill 2 terrorists who are randomly strolling inside a hotel and killing people? Did the police get better guns that are not 100 years old? If nothing has changed 2 terrorists can still take over a hotel and kill people for days. That's surely not ideal.

In the documentary we see the cops use riffles that you need to reload. One jammed as a cop grabbed it from another cop and tried to shoot at a terrorist. The police had no plan, no motivation, no ruleset, no clear leadership, few good weapons, no bravery. Mostly they just stood around and waited for 3 days. Yet none of this is explored. We only hear about the attacks, but not why they were allowed to go on. 3 good Western gunmen could have went around Mumbai and killed all these mediocre terrorists in just hours. You can take any Western special force soldier and he alone would probably take down all these terrorists if given the job and went carefully about it.

I guess that's the fascinating part. It's always curious how in undeveloped countries a few uneducated terrorists can be allowed to stroll around a big city for days with no one even bothering them. Yet in the documentary we do see Indian police with pretty modern 80's riffles too and a few guns that are not revolvers. Weapons that can decimate the terrorists if the police knew how to use them as they have various tools to help them out and thousands of police men. Especially riffles with scopes are so easy to use that you can kill anyone from a longe range.

None of this is explored. We also don't hear anything about the leaks media had where they just sent out live images and interviews from the attack meaning that the terrorists always had all the info they needed to find survivors or plan their attacks. This at least changed a great deal post the attack in India. But no one knows if the media will do better next time because there hasn't been such an attack again. Maybe they will still send out locations of survivors and whatnot. Or maybe not. The documentary leaves this whole topic unexplored.

Excellent Documentary

Warning: Spoilers
Devoid of "Political Correctness". More along the lines of that old FBI show, "Just the facts Ma'am". The captured cellphone conversations between the young terrorist and their cowardly "controllers" urging them to kill more and more, reminding them to die instead of getting arrested, is sickening. Makes you want to find the controllers and torture them a bit. One who was arrested told how his own father sold him to the "controllers" promising he'd make lots of money if he went with the men. They were indoctrinated, actually brainwashed in a 3 month intensive and violent camp where they weren't even allowed to speak to others in the same situation. These young men were being created as guided missiles under the control of these cowards who sent them out. Told them lies about how those who died in jihad glowed with a godly light as their souls ascended to heaven, etc. After seeing all the killing you could almost feel sorry for the young man who was caught, the others having died. Eventually he was executed for his crime. The narration if anything was understated, which I'm glad it wasn't being emotionalized, especially since the videos of the killings were more than enough to do that. Well worth viewing to see into the minds and operations of these hit squads and their cowardly controllers.

Tragedy that needs to be known to stay prepared.

Warning: Spoilers
The documentary explores terrorist attacks in Mumbai on 26th November 2008. The targeted entities included hotel Trident, hotel Taj, Nariman House, CSMT station, Cama hospital, leopald café and explosions in two of the taxis. There were 166 deaths and 293 injuries.

Well I have seen RGV's 'the attacks of 26-11 (2013)'. This documentary excels when we compare both.

Brain washing factor remained same, there was clear and paced indication of the master mind.

The documentary takes into account the real live personnel's that were victims.

And last but not the least, the captured communication over the phone gave us insight of the awful.

A major let-down

Warning: Spoilers
Portions of Terror in Mumbai are riveting: the video footage of the attacks; interview segments with survivors, police and witnesses; and most fascinating of all, bedside footage of the police interview with the surviving Lashkar e Taiba killer. Unfortunately, these segments are connected by an incredibly annoying, breathless narration from neo-con journalist Fareed Zakaria (a student of orientalist Samuel 'Clash of Civilizations' Huntington) that is disrespectful to the victims and completely unwilling to engage the serious political issues behind the attack. It's especially disappointing, as director Dan Reed's previous film, Terror in Moscow, was a masterful documentary that didn't oversimplify the issues. This is a lazy piece of film-making that teaches us nothing about terrorism or the often fraught relationship between India and Pakistan, and in fact assumes a hysterical anti-Muslim, pro-War on Terror tone.

Tragic face of terrorism
sunita-465667 March 2023
Watching this was painful so many poor innocent people lost their lives because of terrorists cultivated in Pakistan, thick simple minded boys fooled into believing these heinous action would take them to heaven. What's clear is these simpletons only got lucky due to the inadequacy of the police and their facilities which were inadequate to deal with this type of terrorism. Hopefully lessons to be learnt here about better equipping the police on the ground. If only the commandos had got in earlier. A well made piece with never before seen footage and audio of the conversations that took place, hope to never see animals like this unleashed again 🙏
