Six months, the longest hiatus I ever had to experience. But the necessary delay required to polish the show and make it as appealing and fascinating as Battlestar Galactica. What a naive thought ! Caprica hasn't reimagined itself and is still a mix of captivating and questionable elements.
Imperfect because of its many flaws. The editing was as poor and chaotic as most previous installments. There's just no continuity between the sequences and it's even worst considering the arcs develop in different universes. An other thing I disliked was the lack of Cylon. In Rebirth I found its interaction with Zoe and their environment jaw dropping. In Unvanquished it was a non event. The calm before the storm ? I really hope ! As for the pseudo The Matrix and Equilibrium fight it was just misplaced and ridiculous. Alessandra Torresani is a doll as Zoe but definitely not a Buffy Summers. It's like if the writers were forced to include her. However they should have saved her for the upcoming episode instead of wasting her cute talent for an anecdotic scene. A gift for the geeks ? Not welcome !
Despite these recurring issues I can't help being intrigued by Daniel Graystone's fate. Now Joseph Adama is back from the virtual world it's even more captivating. Otherwise I was slightly disappointed by the way Daniel's hell journey was covered. I wish it had been darker and tortured. However it was intense and even surprising so be prepared for a few twists. We know what he did to make his first Cylon sentient so what about the company he created ? Beside the usual family versus the terrorist and religious arcs were also developed further. In fact the second was probably the most important. It was enlightening to finally comprehend who the puppet masters really are. New characters were also introduced and should make the story even more controversial. Let's also not forget to mention Lacy even if she only had a minor role. As expected she's a bit lost but tries to act like if she was in control. James Marsters as Barnabus is a perfect match to her girl next door look because he's manipulative and seductive. Is she just an other pawn ready to explode or destined to become much much more ?
Last but not least I would like to point out the visual effects, less than average at times. Already in End of Line the Cylon chasing was over the top but here I wish they had better spent their budget. Computer graphics allow us to blend real and digital settings. How come they didn't make it happen ? From the explosion to the fantasy sets I think they could have done a better job. In my humble opinion production quality is important when it comes to science fiction. It just makes the visuals more immersive and I don't appreciate when what I see jars with the picture I have in mind. But be reassured because the contents is substantial enough to make you pay less attention to these details.
