A Labor of Love
FridayGal8 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
While the two leads make a handsome pair, the humor was forced by secondary characters. The eye rolling and grimacing of the Majordomo, Blevins, got old very quickly. Some of Dr Tasha's problems were just silly: being married to royalty for over a year and still not knowing which cutlery or glassware was appropriate? Not using her title/position to create the necessary children's wing at their local hospital? There was a cute bit of the royal motorcade driving through a burger joint so Tasha could get a cheeseburger. Another bit was totally dropped when her brother, Jeff, planned to propose to Royal Security Guard, Bella, by dropping the engagement ring in a cup of hot tea he'd prepared for her. As he set it aside to welcome his sister, a female hospital worker, picks up the lovely China tea cup to drink it - who does that? Jeff didn't try to stop her or warn her against the possibility of choking on the ring. I assume he took out the ring when the camera was focused elsewhere. Oh, well.. I don't imagine there will a fourth installment to this series. They tend to run in threes.

Yes it's silly
Jackbv12325 November 2021
Other reviewers have dealt with the silly story, fair to poor acting, and poor production values.

I've said before even though it's probably well known that most of us don't expect strict adherence to reality in these movies, especially when royalty is involved. I think this movie fits a young audience where the nonsense is more easily accepted and even enjoyed

Having said that, Tasha's disrespect for the King, which in this movie reaches the point of outright, albeit private, rebellion, was a little too much for me. She acts like she is smarter and can boss around the King. One might even say that Tasha's attitude is American arrogance at it's worst. Then there is the message that a female has as much right to the throne as a male which is repeatedly hammered home. Again, this is a concept we fully accept in America (or at least we should), but that isn't the case everywhere in the world.

There were humorous moments. Some fell flat. Some will appeal to many. The bit with the ring in the tea cup was pretty silly.

Sort of good

Nick Hounslow is unbelievable as a prince & more so as a husband. There's no chemistry. Could he be queer in real time because he shows as much in his mannerisms from his speech & stance. Although he's tall he doesn't exude masculinity. It seems his lines are even limited along with his stiltedness. I found him to be distracting to what could have been a movie with a strong romance in the plot. Kaitlyn Leeb on the other hand plays the role perfectly & carries the movie. She displays an honesty of what it would be like to marry into a royal atmosphere. Couldn't you have found a better leading man for her?

Royal baby ridiculousness
TheLittleSongbird25 July 2023
Love Christmas with all my heart. Love the fun and nostalgia it brings, and cherish all the time spent with family and friends every year. Decided in 2019 to see some newly released (at that time) Christmas films to broaden my Christmas film horizons (namely those from Hallmark and Lifetime), this turned into a quest that is still ongoing. Feelings have been extremely mixed doing this and even when trying to take them for what they're meant to be some have been lacking (though there have been some surprisingly good ones too).

Didn't care very much for the first two 'Christmas with a Prince' films, a few good things in each but a lot of bad for pretty much the same reasons. Still saw the second sequel 'The Royal Baby' anyway for curiosity, to see whether it was better, same level or worse. 'The Royal Baby' fares worse than both, it has the same few redeeming qualities minus one redeeming merit that 'Becoming Royal' had. But also the same numerous flaws that outweigh the pros, with the worst being executed territory.

'Christmas with a Prince: The Royal Baby' has a few good things. The scenery is lovely to look at. The music captures the festive spirit with great affection, although some of the placement was questionable.

A few parts are cute.

However, there are a lot of bad things. Both leads are poor, with Kaitlyn Leeb being too over eager and Nick Hounslow looks uncomfortable and is very bland. The chemistry between the two is completely charmless and not even there. The supporting cast really overdo it with the mugging embarrassingly and their characters are like exaggerated caricatures (and annoying ones like that) rather than real people. Even Josh Dean, who was a redeeming quality in 'Becoming Royal' isn't good here, from trying too hard.

While liking the scenery and decor, the very slapdash photography gives the film an incredibly cheap look. The direction is some of the most disorganised and leaden for any film seen recently and of all the recently seen Christmas films, clearly having no idea what to do with the story and the direction of the actors. The story is thin as a wafer and also lacking in charm and full of ridiculousness and excessive predictability. It was actually pretty insulting how truly stupid and incompetent Dr Tasha is made to behave.

Likewise, the script still has no tension or emotional connection and is ruined by an overload of the cheesiest of cheese and equally excessive difficult to stomach sentimentality. The story jumps around and is so dreary and predictable not to mention jawdrop inducing daft.

Concluding, very weak. 3/10.

Horrendous

Warning: Spoilers
This movie was so awful, It was so predictable from beginning to end, them having twins was predictable, damn haven't do you with the whole the boy being the heir was also predictable, her getting stuck in the US was also predictable, it's not like the first 2 were all that good but this one was worse than the other two combined, and the fact that you could tell when there was actually holding a baby or a doll was bad production, I can go on about how awful this movie was but I'm just gonna leave it here.

Atrocious
bfoster-336808 November 2021
Thankfully I recorded this so I was able to fast forward through the slow parts, of which there were many. Totally predictable. Scenery and decorations were beautiful. Usually save to watch again, that won't be happening, will delete as soon as it's over. Absolute waste of time.

I'm gonna get ragged for this but for me it was the most enjoyable one of the three movies
lippylip2614 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Having watched all three (Binge Watch) in the course of two days all I can say is I throughly enjoyed this movie the best The other two were very prim and proper but with this one they let their hair down very much Bevins was a delight to watch - Tim Curry was his middle name The movie kept me attracted and glued to the screen waiting for Bevins heartfelt misery of been messed around by the royal couple The clash of tradition vs modernanlity is always interesting The Princess Diaries two showed that counties need to keep up with modern times and not stay in the medieval era.

My only down issue is the fact that princess Miranda issue was not resolved and the King and Queen Snrs never tied the knot together which was shown by the love they displayed for each other at the second movie "Becoming Royal" It would have been fun to see princess Miranda's reaction to her mother becoming the kings queen instead of her Tasha brother was a real ball of excitement, full of unbridled exuberance and joy for the love he showed both to his half sister and all the patients I liked this Trilogy and would not mind seeing a sequel.

Very, very, very bad
mphervey15 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It isnt often a movie puts me in a bad mood that lasts through the evening and on to the next day, but this one accomplishes that. I liked the first two installments well enough to look forward to this one, but something went horribly wrong. This movie was not only stupid, it was irritatingly so. First of all, Tasha has been married an entire year and no one ever pointed out the proper cutlery to use? She even pointedly asked the question and her husband admitted it. He just let her be embarrassed? Second, once they were in America they stopped at Burger Crave. Unless their engagement was across the street, she could not have had a few bites on the drive over? She waits until she steps out of the car to take a bite of the burger? And when she trips down the stairs, instead of thanking the diplomat who helped her, she instead hugs him like a 5 year old school girl. So not only did her husband not teach her what cutlery to use, he also didnt help her look or act classy.

As far as her brother and the ring... he puts the ring in a cup of tea and sets it down. Seems like he would have held on to that cup for dear life considering what was in it. And the nurse just picked up the cup and started drinking... didnt ask whose it was, didnt check to see if it belonged to anyone, just started drinking out of the cup. And Jeffery looks at her TWICE and never says a word. Did these people grow up in a barn? Finally, for two people whose relationship had moved far enough along to propose, Jeffrey and Bella sure did alot of hugging. Who was supposed to be convinced they were in a romantic relationship?

The hospital room turned into a sovreign state? Only the room? And it did it revert back to America once she left? For the delivery, I've had leg cramps that caused more pain than that delivery. And no way Tasha, who is a doctor, and her obstetrician didnt know she was having twins. Finally, those babies looked extremely big and healthy for preemies. She mentioned in the beginning of the movie that she could travel up to 7 months, so if they were two months early, it was a serious miracle they didnt need any NICU care.

Last but not least, the King was always talking to them on the phone, even when they were in the palace together. And he was obviously green screened or cgi'd in for the baptism. If the actor was unavailable in person, they should have written it into the script.

Tasha was as far from a class act in this movie as could be, and they turned her husband into a spinless wuss. They absolutely have to do a 4th one to redeem themselves.

Silly and Laborious
rebekahrox14 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was very silly. The script was silly, some of the acting was silly, and the production values were lacking, which made some of the scenes silly. Cases in point. I'll do the production values first. At one point, we see the hospital where (spoiler alert!) Dr. Tasha our American princess heroine is having her baby. The smoke or steam from a chimney is frozen in midair and not wafting upwards. Obviously a photograph stuck in front of the camera. And what was Dr. Tasha wearing during a TV interview? A green dress, red shoes and a yellow hat? Why? They didn't have any clothes in the wardrobe department that went together? Or was she doing a Christmas elf thing? The 3rd strike on the cheap budget issue was the fact that one of the main characters, Charles Shaughnessy was seen entirely on video. Even when he was supposed to be in the same building, they talked to him via an electronic device. The one scene where they couldn't get around not having his presence (the baptism) he was obviously put in via green screen or some other movie trick. Covid? I guess? But they could have made it more seamless. Like not having him be in two different spots during the same scene. And the weird thing was that some of the sets were very lavish looking and authentic. And most of the wardrobe was unobjectionable.

The acting of two of the actors trying to be funny was laughable. In that they were not funny. Specifically, the actor who played Dr. Tasha's brother, and the actor who played Blevins, Prince Alexander's butler(?) courtier(?) Major Domo(?). Their mugging should have been taken down a couple of notches by the director. Speaking of acting, was Princess Tasha having (spoiler alert!) babies or did she have a cramp in her toe? And speaking of giving birth, No one, including Dr. Tasha or her obstetrician knew she was having (spoiler alert!) twins until the second one popped out? I won't belabor the silliness of that, like I won't mention the silliness of the possibility of declaring a hospital room part of another country.

I will mention one more silly scene. Nurse Jeff puts an engagement ring into a cup of tea and leaves it on the counter. A hospital employee drinks the tea and just leaves the cup in the sink with the ring still in it. I hope neither of these two are allowed around sick people. Sorry, one more scene. OK, so Dr. Tasha, who is a highly educated, sophisticated and worldly woman who has been a princess for over a year, has to be taught table manners before she is allowed to go back to visit her own country? (Don't reach across the table and grab the roll with your bare hands! Use the tongs!) I admit, although I saw the first one in this trilogy I don't remember it. And I haven't see the second one in the trilogy. But I don't think it was established that Dr. Tasha was born in a barn.

The main conflict had to do with the king not knowing a girl baby would be able to inherit the throne. He kept insisting the boy was born first even though he was told the girl baby was born first. I won't spoil how all that was resolved.

All in all, although I am used to overlooking ridiculous aspects of Christmas movies no matter what the network and still enjoying them, this one was just too dumb.

Dumb
toncincin22 November 2021
Great background noise while I cleaned my crafting space. I gotta say - she had HUGE babies (two of them). AND YET she attends a baby party wearing a tiny dress AND heels - and has her figure completely back. WOW! I want her body after I had only ONE baby!

I've never seen a single thing with the lead actress where she's been believable. First saw her on Heartland ... she's never been a likable character.

I did get my crafting space clean though .... LOL.

The royal couple have kids.
cgvsluis5 January 2022
This is one of the more ridiculous holiday stories that I have seen with some pretty campy acting.

The royal couple come to America as royal ambassadors. The Princess insists on going even though she is seven months pregnant. She ends up having medical issues and needs to be on bed rest...but then they find out the heir to the thrown has to be born on native soil. How will they solve their problem?

Another nice, warm, hearted movie!
butterflylarita14 November 2021
I just have loved these movies from the first one! They make me laugh, and cry, and are just charming! Who doesn't love a prince and princess fairy tale story! The couple look so believable together! Hopefully there will be another one, maybe after the baby is born! I never understand in reading other reviews, why people say bad things about movies! We already know that movies are only for entertainment, and that, sure, they can be predictable to the end, and yes, sometimes, the characters do or act in really not real life ways, so what, don't bad bash it! As long as Christmas movies are delivering family time, love, and happy endings, that's what it is all about, and why we watch them! I was taught that, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all! Quit watching them, go find a sex filled, cuzzing, killing, violent, "Hollywood" movie, and leave the Christmas movies to us, Thank you!!!
