When Viji Srinivasan dies in a hospital in Bhopal, her daughter performs her last rites breaking age old norms. Viji's associate Ganesh remembers her as a proactive employee of Ford Foundation, and a fighter against gender discrimination.
Disturbed by the plight of children and girls in rural Bihar, Viji goes out of way to help them. Pinched by comment of social activist Ganesh Prasad that people don't want to leave air-conditioned offices, she leaves her job.
Viji and her husband shift to Bihar to work at grassroots. Viji and Ganesh form an NGO ADITHI devoted to uplift of womanhood, fighting against evils like female foeticide, infanticide, denial of education, child marriage and violence.
Viji makes hundreds of female workers join her mission. She tirelessly works for promotion of folk arts and crafts like Sujuni and Madhubani painting. Besides Ford Foundation and goverment organisations, she ropes in other NGOs too.
Sacrificing her personal and family life, Viji works for the welfare of fisher women and sex workers. Facing resistance from arrogant and conservative manhood, she instills confidence among girls and women.
Viji's health deteriorates, but she is more worried that so much is still to be done. She is taken ill while traveling and dies at a hospital in Bhopal. Her associates resolve to continue with her mission.
