The Netflix adaptation of The Sandman has been long anticipated both by early fans of the DC comic and by those who have come to enjoy the many wonderful Neil Gaiman televised offerings, from Good Omens to American Gods. But even with the inherent appeal of the classic comic and its creator, there’s something thrilling about recognizing an actor that’s been cast in a key role from other work that they’ve done, especially if it happens to be genre fare that makes them seem particularly suited for their part.
The cast of The Sandman includes many fresh faces that will no doubt become more recognizable as the series gains an audience. But below are some of the more seasoned actors that viewers will instantly recognize and get excited about seeing in their new roles.

David Tennant and Catherine Tate are to return to next season’s Doctor Who, as anticipation grows for Russell T Davies’ retaking of the reins.
News of the pair’s return comes a week after Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa was confirmed as the 14th Time Lord in the long-running BBC series, which is seeing Davies return as showrunner after a 12-year absence.
Harry Potter and Des star Tennant played the 10th Doctor during Davies’ first Doctor Who showrunning gig from 2005 to 2010, while comedian Tate, who wrote and starred in Netflix series Hard Cell, played his companion Donna Noble.
While the show’s creators are keeping quiet on what the pair’s contribution will be to the latest season, their scenes will air next year, coming as the show turns 60.
Davies said: “It looks impossible – first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna,...

Photo: 'Hard Cell' Female comedians are my favorite; especially those I can look up to. There is a myriad of examples that I could list for you, beginning with the talented Phoebe Waller-Bridge to the hilarious Maria Bamford. As someone who is also female, and aspiring to be a comedian and writer myself, I find many female comedians to be inspirational and be utter role models to me. With this said, whenever I see a successful female comedian starring (alongside writing and directing) as the lead in a film or series, my heart entirely skips a beat. This aspect is especially amplified in my soul when it comes to the film/series is all about the comedian in question. More specifically, examples of this involve ‘Fleabag’ and ‘Broad City’. These shows have been known to be loved by many and named to be critically acclaimed, and they’ve...

Exclusive: Doctor Who star Catherine Tate’s Netflix comedy Hard Cell is a tonal shift from her previous work, according to exec Kristian Smith, who revealed the mockumentary’s producer Leopard Pictures is working on a feature film adaptation of a Michael Morpurgo novel.
Hard Cell, which drops today, features a fake documentary crew following the inmates and staff of Hmp Woldsley, with beloved UK comedy star Tate portraying multiple characters to capture the British penal system at its brutal and humorous best.
Smith told Deadline the six-parter is a departure from Tate’s previous work such as the BBC’s The Catherine Tate Show and said it is unique in the TV landscape.
“There’s real pathos to this, it’s proper storytelling” he added. “The show is laugh out loud funny and everything people love about Catherine is there but you will see moments of great tragedy, real...

Natasha Lyonne is set to return as the temporally displaced Nadia on Russian Doll season 2 on April 20. The first season of the show premiered in 2019 and appeared to tell a rather complete story about one Brooklyn woman’s experiences of dying over and over again. But Lyonne and fellow producers Leslye Headland and Amy Poehler still have some story to tell. Netflix is undoubtedly very happy to let them continue to tell it.
