- The first two contestants, one man and one woman, are eliminated. The show also includes a performance by Sean Kingston, a premiere video from Miley Cyrus, a performance by the cast of "The Lion King", and a tribute to Patrick Swayze.
- After two nights of performances, it was time on Wednesday to eliminate one man and one woman on "Dancing with the Stars."
But first, host Tom Bergeron asked head judge Len Goodman to introduce the encore performance of the week. Len said the judges wanted to revisit the performance that surprised them the most: Kelly Osbourne and Louis Van Amstel's Viennese Waltz.
To the highlights: The flashbacks to Tuesday night's performances from the women included Debi Mazar admitting she was overthinking while dancing and Melissa Joan Hart and Mark Ballas mocking Bruno Tonioli's evil laugh. Also, Macy Gray said Carrie Ann Inaba's description of her as "fascinating, innocent and bizarre" all rolled into one made her "kind of like a fruit bar."
Kelly made her parents proud with her performance and afterward said that she'd done "so many naughty, bad things" there was nothing else she could ever do to shock them except for dancing as gracefully as she did. "It was really amazing to share that with them," she said.
To the results: Oddly, after showing the highlights for the women's performances, Tom and co-host Samantha Harris went to the results on the men's side of the competition.
The first couple safe were snowboarder Louie Vito and Chelsie Hightower. The second couple sent to safety were singer Aaron Carter and Karina Smirnoff.
Be our guest: Reggae singer Sean Kingston stopped by to perform his single, "Face Drop," after which Tom mentioned, "By the way, Sean's single is available right in the music lounge at abc.com." Yes, that thought just occurred to him.
Later, Miley Cyrus' new music video "Party in the U.S.A." was shown, and the Macys Stars of Dance feature highlighted a performance from the musical production of "The Lion King."
The Losers' Club: Jeffrey Ross, Penn Gillette and Kenny Mayne were featured in a short segment about "The Losers' Club," made up of the eight dancers who were knocked out first in the competition.
"There's only one way to get in this club," Ross explained. "It's to suck."
Mayne said it "feels good to have that dislike for Bruno" after remembering how the judge ripped into him after his first performance.
"I was inelegant, the American public hated me, and I was told to leave," Mayne recounted. "I've let it go. I'm OK with the American public again," he said, before being shown walking through a parking lot and hearing someone shout, "Loser!"
The three guys told the soon-to-be-named eliminated dancers from Season 9 to hold their heads up high because they had a spot waiting for them in The Losers Club
Elimination No. 1: Three more men were sent safely into next week were Mark Decascos & Lacey Schwimmer, Chuck Lidell & Anna Trebunskaya, and Donny Osmond & Kym Johnson.
The next couple safe was Tom DeLay & Cheryl Burke, leaving Ashley Hamilton & Edyta Sliwinska and Michael Irvin & Anna Demidova waiting to get word on who would go. It was Ashley & Edyta. He said it was a great experience, nonetheless.
To more results: Tom and Samantha revealed the first two women's couples safe to dance again: Natalie Coughlin & Alec Mazo and Mya & Dmitry Chaplin.
Adam's Pep Talk: A segment showing Adam Carolla giving the guys a pep talk before the season premiere included a couple of gems, including when he told them it had been four seasons since a guy had hoisted the mirror ball trophy.
"The last time a man won this competition, Len was in the Army, Carrie Ann was in diapers, and Bruno was in a closet!" Adam shouted.
Then he got in Donny Osmond's face and asked, "You're 51. When do we get to start calling you Don?"
More results: The next three couples who were safe for next week were Melissa Joan Hart & Mark Ballas, Joanna Krupa & Derek Hough, and Debi Mazar & Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
Tribute to Patrick Swayze: Tom introduced a special tribute to Patrick Swayze, who he called a friend of the show. The show's pros performed to some of the songs from Swayze's most beloved films, "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost."
There weren't many dry eyes in the house, and probably across America, when Tony Dovolani and Cheryl Burke finished the routine with a step-for-step tribute to the final dance from "Dirty Dancing" to "(I've Had) The Time of My Life."
Back to the results: With three couples remaining, Kelly Osbourne & Louis Van Amstel were declared safe.
That left Kathy Ireland & Tony Dovolani and Macy Gray & Jonathan Roberts, and the couple sent home was Macy & Jonathan.
Tom said that, as a lover of live television, he was going to miss seeing what Macy would say next.
