- In the second consecutive week of double elimination, two couples meet in a dance-off to save one of them. The show also features performances by Colbie Caillat and Rod Stewart, as well as a new song performed by Mark and Derek.
- A double elimination and a dance-off were in order on Tuesday night's "Dancing with the Stars" results show, which meant anything could happen.
First, there was an encore performance of Monday's Team Tango and it was on to the highlights.
Roll the tape: Michael was pleased with his 23, knowing full well that other teams scored higher. Donny tripped more than a few times on his foxtrot, but he owned up to them and said the room was spinning due to his illness. Mark was forced to dance with a new partner and landed the lowest score of the night.
Mya's foxtrot annoyed Len once again with "gimmicks" and "unnecessary bits," but she was happy her score was better than last week. Aaron Carter landed the highest score of the season, but fell down the leader board later when his team scored four points lower than Team Tango. Kelly's performance put her on top of the world and made Bruno dance on the top of the judges' table. Bruno said Joanna was "so sexy I can taste it," and she was excited backstage.
The nerves were high as the couples knew there would be a dance-off and a double elimination.
Before the results, a quick look at the leader board:
Joanna & Derek, 27 + 28 = 55
Aaron & Karina, 29 + 24 = 53
Donny & Kym, 24 + 28 = 52
Kelly & Louis, 24 + 28 = 52
Mya & Dmitry, 25 + 24 = 49
Michael & Anna, 23 + 24 = 47
Mark & Anna, 19 + 24 = 43
To the results: Host Tom Bergeron announced that the first couple safe was Kelly & Louis. The first couple in the bottom three was Mark & Lacey.
Be our guest: Multi-platinum-selling artist Colbie Caillat performed her single, "Fallin' for You" from her new album "Breakthrough." Later, Derek Hough and Mark Ballas performed as Ballas Hough. They did their single "Move," which will be included on a mysterious "upcoming album," according to Samantha Harris. The venerable Rod Stewart stopped by later to perform "It's the Same Old Song."
More results: The next couple safe for another was Donny & Kym. The next couple in the bottom three was Michael & Anna.
Dance Club?: In a little piece inspired by the movie "Fight Club," the remaining seven dancers talked about the rules of ballroom:
Rule #1: Do not talk about the trophy.
Rule #2: Do not talk about the trophy.
Rule #3: You have to trust your partner.
Rule #4: No risk, no reward.
The Final Rule: "Winning isn't everything," Donny said. "It's the only thing."
Back to the results: The three remaining couples -- Mya & Dmitry, Aaron & Karina, and Joanna & Derek -- have all been in the top spot in recent weeks, but one was in danger Tuesday night. Mya & Dmitry were safe. Then Joanna & Derek were safe, meaning Aaron & Karina were in the bottom three -- after finishing second in the judges' scoring.
The bottom three were Mark & Lacey, Michael & Anna, and Aaron & Karina. One of those couples would be sent home immediately. That couple was Michael & Anna.
Dance-off: Mark & Lacey went first, doing a cha cha cha. Len loved it, saying Mark was back in his comfort zone with Lacey and saying it was "sharp" and "terrific," and a "very top-notch performance." Bruno said he didn't know what else Mark could have thrown in. Carrie Ann said Mark was "back in top form."
Aaron & Karina went second and did a jive. He was focused on impressing the judges and showing them he wanted to be there. Bruno said he couldn't believe that Aaron was in this situation "after last night's excellent jive -- and this was as good." Carrie Ann disagreed with Bruno, saying Aaron's jive was better than Monday night's. Len called Aaron "the comeback kid" and said Aaron's jive was "right on the money."
The result: Carrie Ann said the decision was difficult and said both couples were incredible. Len agreed, saying the two couples could not have danced any more. Bruno also praised both couples.
Len said the judges' decision was unanimous and they kept Aaron & Karina in the competition. That meant Mark & Lacey were out.
