Episode 305
bobcobb30123 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Well, they are getting a little bit better and we are getting a little more action and a more pressing threat, but this season still can only be defined as underwhelming. Maybe what is going on currently in the world is killing a little bit of my interest, but I just feel like the whole Russian thing is just too tiring.

Jack Ryan needs to give us something big and soon because with only a handful of episodes left this season, we haven't gotten a big moment or something that has truly shocked us yet. Wondering when, or even if at this point, something like that may come up, but we'll have to keep waiting.

Not so far away from Finland
momirko18 February 2023
I see the other comments here and must say that first thing I have done is to check the distance between Matoksa, which is very close to St. Petersburg and in proximity to Finland, and Kotka, in Finland where they landed with chopper, and it is less than 200km (120miles) apart. So with a helicopter it would take less than an hour to fly. The problem is only where did they get the helicopter from? It must have waited them in the Russian territory. But even then there is a problem of Russian response when you enter with helicopter and kill Russian soldiers, and then you just fly away like nothing happened and no one spots you nor goes after you. Not believable.

Dark and edgy.
jgfrvyg7 January 2024
This was the best episode of the series to date. Lots of high stakes, cat and mouse scenarios, with nuclear radiation and booby traps for the characters with shifting loyalties to contend with. The flashback elements of this season add a level of intrigue and help unravel the motives of one of the main Russian characters quite well. The Czech President proves to be quite adept at escape and espionage herself after being imprisoned in a remote log cabin. Fortunately her captor has moved his family elsewhere so bargaining chips can be used. All in all, this is a great episode and I can't understand why its average rating is relatively low.

"Nobody Knows Anyone"
lavatch23 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"Nobody Knows Anyone" is the realization of President Alena "LeLe" Kovac after learning that her father, Old Petr, was responsible for the murder of the Russian Minister of Defense. But that statement could also apply to the flummoxed audience struggling to understand the convoluted narrative of this miniseries!

Petr also shoots in the back his partner in crime, Radek, who has kidnapped Alena and taken her to the family's country estate outside of Prague. Greer arrives too late to be of any help. As Alena has now ordered the NATO missiles to be placed in the Czech Republic, she is unwittingly playing into the trap of the "rogue" Russian cabal by offering a pretext for the Russians to unleash the Sokol nuclear warhead.

Most of the action of this episode unfolds under the cover of night, and the dark environment of Matoska is just as eerie and as confused as the scene in the country house in Prague. Jack's team fails to capture the nuclear device, and the major stumbling block is once again the giant redwood tree of a man named Luka.

Now, Luka maintains that it is necessary to keep up the pretense of placing the nuclear device in order to discover who is behind the plot. Luka then dashes off into the night with the warhead in tow.

In a flashback sequence, we follow the movements of the one survivor of the 1969 massacre at Matoska, who is wounded but survives the ordeal. He was the one who sought to defy Luka's order to terminate the Sokol project and escaped. But who is this mystery man?

The episode's titles posits the thesis of who can be trusted and who is a friend in a world defined by duplicity.

Wow!

Couldn't see most of the epsidoe
samquinn20061 January 2023
What is it with directors these days? This season hasn't been as good as the previous two but at least I could follow the episodes. This one was shot mostly in the dark and even with my tv brightness on full, I had to just listen to the the talking to have any idea what was going on. I'm just hoping that no one I liked was actually shot as it was hard to tell.

The fun of Jack Ryan in the first two seasons was that he was an analyst and not a field agent (albeit with an amazing physique). Now he's just any other spy/adventure hero, so the character could really be anyone. Seems a wasted opportunity to do something different.

Unrealistic
cemturc23 December 2022
Despite a promising plot, the script and the dialoguea are weak.

There are also plainty of absurdities which reduce the quality of the production"

For instance: 4 armed soldiers go from the Blacksea to Greece with a inflatable boat!!! Right..

4 armed us slodiers enter Russia with a chopper, make an operation in the middle of Russia and than they can move away with the same chopper to Finland. Cmon!!

Globe trotter shows, such as Mission Impossible, are very appelaing. But if you dont have a good story and writers, even if you trott a dozens of cities in a movie it doesnt necessarlt mean you will have a good movie.

Please look at a map!

Warning: Spoilers
The CIA launches a mission in the middle of Russia at a mothballed nuke plant. Okay. The team runs into a bit of a pickle so Mike November calls for a "hot extract," by which I don't think he meant Capsaicin. 30 seconds later, a black CIA helicopter shows up to rake the building (in the middle of Russia) with machine gun fire. Wow. The CIA has really rapid response (in the middle of Russia). In the next scene, the helicopter drops them off at an airport in Finland having traveled all the way from the middle of Russia without setting off any radar or air defense. They then leave Finland in a 2 engine prop plane and fly to Prague. Couldn't the CIA afford a jet for them when they had armed helicopters on the ready in the middle of Russia?

What happened?
mshallop29 December 2022
Love JR but this episode was the absolute worst.

Stop trying to be all dark and edgy emo with your filming and SHOW US the story! That's really your only job.

This episode is too dark to see anything (and my TV brightness is max cranked!) and, even with captions enabled, I can't tell what's happening.

Hear car door slam, see two muzzle flashes, body thuds. Someone shot someone in the face but I have no idea who.

Scene from an ops center shows JR scampering around on their security monitor. Much better image then when JR scampering around IS the scene. Can't even make out who's in the op center watching JR. Hope that wasn't important to the plot.

Tons of lost content in this episode b/c of the dismal cinematography.

Worst episode, so far, of all seasons.

Disappointing
dierregi6 August 2023
So far the JR series has been mildly entertaining, with some thrilling moments and some not so much, but I acknowledge that the settings and characters are engaging enough to keep watching. Unfortunately, this third series is going downhill fast. First, given the present situation between Russia and Ukraine it feels uncomfortably too close and yet unrealistic with its mention of Ukraine actually backing up Russia (not a funny joke).

Then the plot is way too convoluted. Luka used to be in the Red Army, now he's a big shot double agent or maybe not. The Czech President's father is also Russian and plotting with her daughter's secret service to assassinate a Russian minister... for what purpose whatsoever? Unclear. Jack himself is going rogue but not really, because he gets assistance from Mike and Greer and even from his ex boss who couldn't stand him. Why? Unclear.

To compound the felony this whole episode is shot in the dark and it's impossible to see a thing, let alone feel any thrills for what's going on, because you can't see what's happening. Two potentially dramatic situations wasted, because it's impossible to see...

Needs way better editing
lewismom-595572 January 2023
The eight episodes should have been edited down to six. It drags out. Also needed a story editor-lots of extraneous scenes and superfluous side stories (especially in Season 2). A character from Season 1 is trotted out in Season 3 on a flimsy premise. Miller's and Wright's 1-dimensional characters are straight out of Central Casting. Ryan's facial expression never changes. Worst of all, many episodes are so dimly lit, you cannot tell what is going on. I love a good espionage thriller but found Season 2 hard to care about, and Season 3 hard to follow. C'mon, Tom Clancy... as the Executive Producer, you can do better.

So dark it might as well have been an audiobook
jameswardle-0115330 November 2023
So dark it might as well have been an audiobook A key episode that move the story into the final episode, but was so dark I could see or understand what was actually happening. It's possible to have things set at night but light them so they are viewable as well. I ended up trying to watch it on my phone instead and still had the same issue as well. Overall this series feels like a step down from the previous 2, but this episode has been the only one that has frustrated me enough to create an IMDb account just to complain about it. All the characters are good, Krasinski is really good as Ryan.
