- While Maeve and Caleb infiltrate Temperance World and find a level within a level, Bernard and Stubbs go on the beginning of Bernard's quest to save the world. Meanwhile, Uwade and Frankie prepare to move out, but discover that all is not as it seems.—Gislef
- Bernard hears his son Josh tell him to open his eyes, and does so. He puts on his glasses and Josh grabs the Maze plaque from Bernard's hand and run off. Bernard goes after Josh, and his son go through a door. Going through the door, Bernard finds himself in a field and no sign of Josh. The door disappears behind Bernard, and a tree appears and burst into flames.
Finding himself in Sweetwater, Bernard goes into empty saloon, walked up to the bar, and finds an empty shot glass on it. A horse runs by outside, and Bernard goes out on the street and finds Sweetwater in ruins, corpses on the street. The street turns into a modern-day city street, still in ruins. The horse appears down the street and Bernard follows it and finds the plaque. Delos looms ahead of Bernard, and he goes in and finds the horse. Akecheta pours a drink and greet Bernard, says that it's good to see him, and offers Bernard a seat. He says that Bernard is in their world, and the others are in worlds of their own choosing, and Bernard made their current world for himself. Akecheta wonders why Bernard is replaying the past. Bernard says that the real world is in trouble and needs their help. When Akecheta says that Bernard loves the humans and it's a rare flaw in one's like them, Bernard asks Akecheta if he'll come with him. Akecheta refuses but says that he can give Bernard a gift of the future, and says that in the Sublime they build simulations of all the paths the real world could take. He suggests that Bernard explore them, but had better be quick, because after a certain point all paths end in destruction and Bernard should intervene to assure any hope of survival.
Visions of the simulations flash through Bernard's mines, and he tells Akecheta that he understands where it's all going. Bernard goes to the window and looks out on the city in flames below, and Akecheta asks Bernard if he thinks he can save the humans. When Bernard says that he's seen a path, Akecheta asks if Bernard can save them. Bernard says that he can, but in every scenario, he dies. Akecheta tells Bernard that he could survive by choosing not to return to the human world.
In the motel room, Bernard comes back to life. Stubbs is there and greets Bernard, and Bernard tells him that they have to go before it's too late. Bernard sends Stubbs outside to wait for him. There's a shovel outside and on Bernard's suggestion, Stubbs puts it in the trunk of their car. Bernard joins Stubbs at the car after gathering his things, and says that he has to know a few things to know if he can save the world. With that, the two of them drive off.
Caleb and Maeve step off the train into Temperance World, and Maeve dismisses everything around them as a "sideshow". She says that they need to make their way underground, and Delos controls everything from there. To do that, they have to "die". Maeve tells Caleb not to pick up a can, knowing it starts one of the narratives with a nearby girl.
The couple arrive at a bar, the Butterfly Club, and go inside. Maeve recognizes it as a reskinning of her bar in Westworld. A human go by, the wife saying that she wants to find an Easter Egg. Maeve grabs a cigar and a bottle of alcohol, and sits down at a table with Caleb. She tells Caleb that they wait for history to repeat itself.
Stubbs and Bernard drive through the desert, and pull over at a diner and go inside. Bernard says he's trying to discern which "here" is "here", and Bernard predicts which sandwich Stubbs ends up with. The kitchen is out of the sandwich Stubbs wants so he takes the one Bernard predicted, Bernard borrows a pen from the waitress, and says that he saw in the Sublime that if they can trigger a certain series of events, they have a small chance of saving the world. Two locals leave, and Bernard goes after them and calmly knocks them out and drags them away.
Frankie tries to reach Caleb on her ham radio, and Uwade and Carver come out to get Frankie to pack for leaving. Carver convinces Frankie to let her take her things to the car and goes, and Uwade tells Frankie that Caleb can't answer the girl's calls because he has to stay safe. She assures her daughter that Caleb will find them no matter where they go, because nothing will keep him away. They go to the car where Carver is packing their things, and prepare to leave. Frankie notices a dirty stain on her stuffed bear that Carver took to the car.
After killing the locals, Bernard puts their bodies in the trunk of their car. He takes the shovel and hands it Stubbs as the latter comes out, and tells Stubbs that they don't need the car anymore. A woman, C, pulls over and Bernard shows her the maze symbol he drew on a diner napkins. She recognizes it and tells them to get in, draws guns on them, and says that they're not the men she was sent to pick up. Stubbs takes one of C's guns and Bernard tells her to take the bag he picked up in the diner and look inside. The decapitated head of one of the locals is inside with a pod in the skull, and Bernard tells her that the meeting was a setup, they've been trying to infiltrate her group, and he can help. To do so, he needs C to take him to the condemned lands. Bernard figures that her organization is there, and they're hiding there looking for something. He says that he can help the group find what they're looking for, and she agrees as long as they give her her gun back, and blindfold themselves and tie themselves up. Bernard readily agrees and once it's done, C drives off.
At the Club, Maeve and Caleb listen to the Club's version of Maeve, and Maeve says that she was better. The events from some of the Sweetwater narratives play out, and then Temperance Hector and his gang appear. He saunters to the bar, and Maeve tells Caleb that Temperance Hector is just a shabby imitation of a man she used to know. Maeve shoots him and then Temperance Maeve and the rest of the gang, with Caleb helping her.
Frankie tells Uwade that she wants her father. When she refuses to go and Uwade goes to pack her things, The girl notices drops of blood on the patio tiles and follow them to a nearby dumpster. She finds the real Carver's corpse and runs inside to tell her mother. She whispers to her mother what she found, and the host Carver comes in and Uwade tells him that they'll join him at the car in a minute. Uwade then tells Frankie to go, then takes Caleb's gun out of the hidden safe.
C drives Bernard and Stubbs to the condemned lands, and she has them help her deactivate a laser security barrier so they can drive through. They then continue on.
The police haul away the gang's bodies, and then Maeve and Caleb climb into the truck with the bodies The bodies rare transferred to the underground control center, and once they're left alone, Maeve and Caleb look around. The couple go through an area dedicated to behavioral training for the hosts, and Maeve finds a control tablet but discovers that there's something off about the entire level and nothing is being controlled from there.
A security alarm goes off and the couple go out in the hallway. QA guards see them and assume they're gusts, and other armed human guests join them. Wyatt and several of the other rebel hosts come in shooting, gunning down the QA responders, and the guests open fire, killing them. Maeve tells Caleb that it's another level of the game, the 'Westworld Massacre', and finds a level below the one they're on. She leads Caleb off but is shot by one of the guests. They finds a teal to cauterize Maeve's wound, then take the elevator to the level below.
On the next level, drone hosts walk by carrying trays of maggots. In a lab, drone hosts are infecting flies with a black goo. The flies swarm on the glass near Caleb. Maeve hears a sound but Caleb doesn't, and she figures it's at a frequency he can't hear. She opens a door to another passageway.
Carver enters the house and discovers that Uwade and Frankie have disappeared. He draws his gun and goes upstairs, enters Frankie's bedroom, and flips over the bed. Frankie is hiding in the closet, but Carver hears her breathing in the closet and opens the door.
In the condemned lands, C stops her vehicle, and a group of soldiers surround them. The leader removes his helmet, checks the head in the bag, and asks where Bernard got it. Bernard says that he decapitated the infiltrator, and says that he sent to find them and they're all in danger. He says that there's a weapon buried in the sands, and he can lead them to it.
Maeve finds a central chamber with a large humming device in the center. The monitors show test subjects in cells and Caleb figures the sound is controlling them. Each subject picks up a pistol and shoot themselves in the head. One of the monitors shows Frankie, as yet unharmed. Caleb runs to find his daughter, while Maeve tries to override the system and open the cell doors.
Caleb finds Frankie's cell, but can't get in. The signal begins again and Frankie goes to the gun on the table with her and puts it to her head. Maeve finally gets the door open, and Caleb takes the gun from Frankie and hugs her. She opens her eyes and says "Daddy", while Maeve realizes that it's a trap and starts to go to Caleb. The Man host enters her chamber and attacks her. The two of them fight and Maeve shoots him with his own gun. She then runs out.
Frankie tells Caleb that he can't leave, and "she" wants him to stay.
Maeve runs into the cell area, and the Man grabs her and slams her into a pillar. He says that he's not the man he used to be.
Frankie tells Caleb that Charlotte only needed him, and the cell door relock.
The real Frankie shoots Carver with her toy gun. It has no effect on him, but Uwade shoots Carver with Caleb's pistol, killing Carver. Uwade then grabs Frankie and runs away from the house with her.
Caleb realizes that the "Frankie" he rescued isn't his daughter. The android grabs his wrists with superhuman strength, her head opens, and flies swarm out and crawl into Caleb's head through all of his orifices.
