Very interesting episode

Both stories were solid morality tales. Almost gave up on the second story as it was a cartoon. Good thing I stuck with it because it turned out to be a very strong in its Lovecraft influence.

Time and age has it's way with you as you get what you want/ And town has strange unlocked secrets!

This episode 5 from season 3 of "Shudder's" "Creepshow" series called "Time Out/The Things in Oakwood's Past" was one interesting and entertaining episode that twist as each story had it's own fate.

First up "Time Out" involves a young man Tim who grows into a successful lawyer and he has it all a wife, family, money, and awards at the firm. Oddly enough a key from his grandma helps stop and unlock time upon Tim entering a strange like closet room. This guides him thru life giving luck, and time for success only like life time ages gets old and stops later at some point!

Then "Things in Oakwood's Past" is an animated cartoon like town of a small town named "Oakwood" and a strange anniversary is coming up that involves the town's settlers and the local librarian and news media stars to investigate as to what really happened with past history, a time capsule plays a role in this tale. Also "The Crate" like parody is a nice homage to the classic film. Overall another good well done episode of the series.

Time Out gets it totally backwards, makes no sense
carlosleyequien12 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers ahead

The young man gets a present from his grandma, a.wardrobe that is implied that killed his grandpa

The guy makes the mistakes he indirectly swears not to do, and focuses on his success instead of his family.

Where this does not make sense at all, which people don't seem to notice, is that it gets the time gimmic backwards, when the dude enters the wardrobe, his watch shows that time moves forward extremely fast, which is the opposite of what would happen in this scenario; if time moves faster inside the wardrobe, you only age, but you have LESS time to do stuff, what would need to happen for the story to make sense, is that time moves SLOWER in the wardrobe, so he can spend HOURS in it and learn and study or investigate while just seconds pass in the real world

The part of him aging is the only thing that makes sense in the story, plus they try to cover, as many shows nowadays, a social message within a horror story(If you focus on what does not matter, what matters will go by and you will miss on that, even affecting your loved ones)

Man, I really miss the time of the scary shows (Or sci fi shows like DR Who) before they tried to add social commentaries so blatantly, and focused on good stories that were carefully thought instead of this garbage.
