Best known for kick-starting careers of up-and-coming filmmakers, Park City still makes room for first time directors pushing north of a ripe old age north of 50. Writer of unknown entities America So Beautiful (2001) and Circle of Eight (2009), Brian Horiuchi’s (shot in Detroit of 2012) Parts Per Billion has got a Sundance parka friendly cast (comprised of Teresa Palmer, Penn Badgley, Josh Hartnett, Alexis Bledel, Rosario Dawson with legends Frank Langella and Gena Rowlands). This is surely in completion stages.
Gist: The story of three couples dealing with a reality-shaking event that threatens to tear them apart. Inspired and sometimes blinded by their love, Len (Josh Hartnett), Mia (Rosario Dawson), Andy (Frank Langella), Esther (Gena Rowlands), Anna (Teresa Palmer) and Erik (Penn Badgley) are as flawed and beautiful as any of the billions who are facing this human-made biological disaster.

As though having names like Frank Langella, Gena Rowlands, Rosario Dawson and Josh Hartnett attached to the project wasn't enough, Parts Per Billions - the new ensemble film from director Brian Horiuchi - has added a few more notable names to its cast. It was announced today that Penn Badgley, Teresa Palmer, Alexis Bledel and Hill Harper have all taken parts in the project, which is already in production. They are currently filming up in Detroit and will be working through Christmas. Horiuchi's directorial debut (he previously wrote the 2009 horror flick Circle of Eight) the new project is structured with interwoven stories a la Magnolia and Crash. The plot is set before a disastrous biological war as three separate couples are faced with life-altering decisions. The press release doesn't say who any of the actors will be playing, but it was previously revealed that the characters names will be Len,...

Will Myspace's latest tentpole help revive the company's image? First Fox parent News Corp bought it for $580 Mm. Then Justin Timberlake bought it for $35 Mm. Now Myspace is teaming up with Fox Digital Entertainment to release original series Wolfpack of Reseda, a horror comedy debuting February 16. The weekly series focuses on disgruntled office worker in the Southern California's San Fernando Valley who finds escape from suburban ennui when he's bitten by a strange creature that he believes to be a werewolf. Part Galafianakis from The Hangover, part Fight Club, part Shaun of the Dead, Wolfpack promises a mix of white collar workplace comedy with conventional horror tropes. But will it work? Kia Motors seems to think so. The Korean auto-maker is the exclusive brand sponsor of the series, hoping perhaps to capitalize on the one million new users the company has added in the past 30 days, thanks to new alliances...

Real-time? Like with “24″? That’s the going assumption for commercials director Nicolai Fuglsig’s feature film debut, the oddly titled “Brass Monkey” (the teaser poster, whipped up by Fugsig to sell the film to Hollywood, can be seen below). Hey, “24″ is taking its damn time getting a movie made, so why not beat it to the punch? It would serve them right for dragging their feet. In any case, Fugsig and his monkey have landed at Paramount, with Deadline calling it “a real-time kinetic thriller that takes place during a killing spree in Los Angeles.” “Brass Monkey” will be based on an idea by Fuglsig, a director with a couple of award-winning commercials and Superbowl spots to his credit, with Brian Horiuchi (“Circle of Eight”) set to re-write the original script by Paolo Marinou-Blanco...

If you have Netflix and are a horror fan in need of something to watch this Labor Day weekend, one look at this gargantuan list I compiled of the new terror titles Netflix has added for instant streaming in just the first three days of this month should keep you busy until Labor Day next year. You'll find something for everyone, from older titles to recent releases, famous to obscure, classic to not-so-classic, monsters to maniacs - you name it.
For the record, I considered compiling this list in alphabetical order or by year of the film's release, but then I realized I had already spent well over an hour just sorting through the massive catalogue of titles Netflix has now made available for instant streaming and realized Labor Day would be over by the time I finished arranging this list in any kind of order. Ready? Here you go.

Back in early October, Paramount teamed with Mountain Dew and MySpace to create an intricate on-line supernatural web-series titled Circle of Eight to debut on the social networking site. The ten-episode series was about Jessica, who moves into the historic building complex known as The Dante in Los Angeles. Her neighbors, while a bit odd, seem overly friendly to welcome her. But then she starts seeing a strange array of deaths that don't seem to be real and begins having visions of her true connection to the place. Now that the on-line series version has officially aired, Paramount Home Entertainment has prepped a slightly alternate cut of the show as a full length feature film for DVD. Shock had the opportunity to speak with lead actress Austin Highsmith who portrays Jessica...

Circle of Eight, from Paramont Pictures, will release on DVD as of February 2nd and despite being targeted for "young teens" the promotional material does have a hook (Horror). Circle of Eight was previously a web series on Myspace, but now the DVD will be on Netflix queues and DVD store shelves shortly. Also described by the movie review website Horror.com as "decent enough to watch all the way through, once, if you have to" and "[but] why bother?" With this stellar review you know that you will be getting the cream of the crop in Circle of Eight, but if that is not enough central character Jessica can be heard screaming her lungs out in 5.1 Dolby Digital. As well, several featurettes included in the DVD will entice some to purchase and Circle of Eight will be provided in Widescreen. All the visually traumatizing details are inside.
