Aladdin and Episode IX are trading places.
Now that Disney has opted to delay its Star Wars sequel, likely to give the newly-appointed J.J. Abrams more time to hash out a screenplay with Justice League‘s Chris Terrio, it’s been confirmed that Guy Ritchie’s live-action remake will move into the slot previously occupied by Episode IX: May 24th, 2019.
The cameras are already rolling on the set of Ritchie’s Aladdin reboot, after Will Smith took to Facebook just last week to share a behind-the-scenes photo featuring his Genie alongside Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Naomi Scott (Princess Jasmine), and Marwan Kenzari (Jafar). Navid Negahban was a last-minute addition to the ensemble cast, after it was revealed that the Homeland actor had sealed a deal to play the Sultan.
And despite bringing together a fairly diverse pool of talent, Disney’s latest reimagining came under fire for selecting Billy Magnussen to play Prince Anders,...

Steve Martin is in negotiations with Disney to star in a family comedy called Magic Camp that he co-wrote with Stu Zicherman, the writer and director of A.C.O.D. I am a huge fan of Martin, and I enjoy his writing style. The original script was written by Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, who also wrote Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
According to THR, the story tells of "a straitlaced banker who returns to Magic Camp, which he attended as a shy child. This time he is a counselor who makes it his mission to improve the lives of all the kids while keeping an eye on his ultimate prize, the top spot at the Golden Wand competition."
This is the perfect project for Martin, as one of his early jobs was working at Merlin's Magic Shop at Disneyland. He was also a magician in his early days as a comedian.

Steve Martin is in talks to star in Disney's Magic Camp.
The actor, who co-wrote the script with Stu Zicherman, is in final negotiations to star in the family comedy, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The film will tell the story of a banker who returns to the magic camp he went to as a shy child, this time as a counsellor.
Not only is the film's lead determined to help improve the lives of the children at the camp, but he also has his eye on the ultimate prize at the Golden Wand competition.
There is currently no director attached to the project.
Earlier this year (June), Martin dismissed rumours of a third Father of the Bride movie, explaining that he hadn't seen a script.

Fans of Steven Martin may recall that the comedian and actor has a history with Disney in more ways than one. Martin has starred in Shopgirl (which he also wrote), Bringing Down the House and two Father of the Bride films (a third has been rumored but debunked by the actor himself), all from Touchstone Pictures, which can be found under the Disney banner. But decades ago, before he got famous, Martin actually worked at the Magic Shop at Disneyland, and even performed magic in his early comedy career. And now he'll get his magical groove back as THR reports he will lead the family comedy Magic Camp. Here's a video of Steve Martin doing magic as The Great Flydini from "The Tonight Show" in 1992: The original script comes from Diary of a Wimpy Kid writers Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, but they're not only producing the film as...

Where in the world has Steve Martin been lately? The celebrated comic actor’s last big screen role was in the ill-received birding comedy The Big Year way back in 2011, and the only project he’s taken on since has been animated caper Home, in which he lends his voice to an alien. Luckily, it appears that Martin may be making a comeback, with word that he’s in talks to star in Magic Camp for Disney.

The previous version of the script came from Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, the duo behind Diary of a Wimpy Kid and its sequel. Summer camp starts for kids everywhere this week, and that got us thinking about great summer-camp movies. There are the classics that show us the traditional camp experiences, including Meatballs, Little Darlings, Meatballs II, The Parent Trap, Meatballs 4, Ernest Goes to Camp and Lolita, as well as the horror flicks Friday the 13th and its sequels, and Sleepaway Camp and its sequels. There's also Indian Summer for nostalgic adults. Now, though, there are all kinds of niche overnight camps, and occasionally we get movies specificaly tied to, say, fat camps (Heavy Weights), magic camps (Magic Camp) and musical theater camps (Camp). We're even starting to get horror flicks tied to niche camps, a la this year's Stage Fright. And thanks in part to Mark...

There is a camp for everything. Dance, wrestling, Jesus — you name it, your kid can camp it. In Judd Ehrlich’s charming Magic Camp, the kids have no desire to be the next LeBron James or Sidney Crosby, however; they want to be like one of the Davids, Blaine or Copperfield. Held each summer in Bryn Mawr, Pa, Tannen’s Magic Camp, a spinoff of the famed Gotham magic store, teaches teenagers, mostly boys, the fine art of making a rabbit disappear into their ear or a wand suddenly appear in their hand. Competition in the performing arts is a staple of non-fiction television and documentary at the moment, but few works step back from the American Idol-style face-off to depict the literal beginnings of their performer subjects. One film that does is Judd Ehrlich’s Magic Camp, a documentary about Tannen’s Magic Camp, a week-long event for budding young magicians where kids learn both stagecraft and sleight-of-hand from an illustrious group of visiting professionals. Ehrlich attended Magic Camp when he was young, and when he became a documentary filmmaker — his previous credits include Mayor of the West Side and Run for Your Life — he knew he had to return to capture that experience. Magic Camp receives its New York premiere at Doc NYC on Saturday, November 10, and some of the film’s young magicians will perform at the screening.

Ben Affleck's "Argo" has been universally acclaimed as a great political thriller based on true events, but two-time Emmy-nominated director Judd Ehrlich ("Run for Your Life," "Magic Camp") wants more for the story behind "Argo" than a film that takes significant dramatic liberties to simplify its plot. Ehrlich wants the truth, and he's spent the last seven years constructing a documentary to reveal just that. Enter "Science Fiction Land," Ehrlich's documentary that tells the true tale of Barry Ira Geller, a young inventor who optioned the rights to Roger Zelazny's award winning novel "Lord of Light."
