After 5 years ish
svenssonemil-760684 August 2022
I haven't watch SNL since the swedish Channel 9 stop to broadcast it in 2017/2018. So when I discoverd it on HBO Max this summer I just knew that I needed to watch it. After 1 hour and 10 minutes I can say that I don't regret it. What an season premiere! Owen Wilson it's just brilliant and one of the greatest of all time. But just to be able to see this show again; it's fantastic and it's such fun!

i don't understand what everyone is talking about...

I thought this was a VERY strong season opener & made me laugh many times. The new cast members have a lot of potential and some are greater than others. The host of this episode, Owen Wilson, did a great job and I applaud him for his monologue. Many people bash on SNL too hard nowadays because they think it's cool to do so, but it's hard to write a 90-minute sketch show every week & remain consistently funny. Sure, SNL will have their ups and downs but this episode certainly wasn't down. I'd like to see some of these said "haters" try and do the same job these writers do, I think they'd give up!

Overall, it's looking to be a great season! Let's hope next weeks Kim Kardashian episode is good...

Not a strong season opening

This was disappointing. Owen Wilson is a gem, and the writing was just too horrible to overcome.

Billionaires in space, school board meeting, and football commentators are the best skits are the best thing snl has put out since the Eddie Murphy episode.

Corporate Comedy?
vonnoosh4 October 2021
Can't help but think people who are not comedians (or have any sense of humor to speak of) are really in control of this show at a higher level at NBC. Either that's true or cancel culture has become so toxic that this is the best attempt at comedy comedians can now make. Imagine all the self censorship sitting on everyone's head in the writing room. Having to heavily weigh each skit, every joke, even one liners against whatever anyone MIGHT take offense to resulting in their immediate firing. Colorless, odorless, tasteless "comedy" claiming this show is funny is progress in so e minds I guess. I've seen reruns of season 6 funnier.....

It's a comedy show right?

I watched this episode and literally didn't laugh. I might have smiled a few times, but that was it. It's not worth 90 minutes of my time for a few smiles. Where are the comedy writers? Where are the funny skits and characters? I realize every skit can't be a winner, but come on, put in some laughs, and not the fake ones that Jost and Che.

Slightly amusing

I believe Coln Jost said on Late Night that they hired a bunch of new writers plus some new people on the cast, and if so, it's not the best start. They can't all be gems but the funniest part the whole show were the clips of Norm MacDonald. I miss Kate and Beck already.

Putty Nose Wilson Sinks SNL
Johnny_West5 October 2021
When was Owen Wilson ever funny? Why is he on SNL? I always get the vibe that Wilson is one of those Hollywood people that has no talent but sucks up to everyone and calls in every favor on a daily basis so that he can stay employed. Every time I see him on TV or a movie, I can think of ten other actors that would have been better or funnier. The ratings sucked for Wilson's appearance on SNL.

Not Terrible
michellesharpe-169434 October 2021
The new cast member who played Biden is incredible and I have a feeling he's gonna be a force of nature with his impressions.

Bowan Yang didn't have much to do but when he was there he was hilarious as always.

Ego Nwodim, Alex Moffat and Kyle Mooney continue to be underutilized.

The sketches were okay, but the Cars 4 sketch is the only one I really remember a few days after the fact.

All in all, not bad. Beck is definitely going to be missed though.

Something Was Missing

I usually like Owen Wilson in things. He was great in "Loki"! Here, he was just meh. He wasn't bad, but he wasn't good either. The writing wasn't the best. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but there's just something about Kacey Musgraves' voice that aggravates me. I didn't like her performance. Overall, it was just an average and forgettable episode. Not a string start to the season.

Good jokes are not allowed on modern TV
byazrov4 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The saddest thing about this episode was a part with Norm Macdonald. Not because he died. But because his jokes were funny unlike the rest of the program. Not even talented guest star saved this show. Who writes those deadborn lines? The SNL team had many months to prepare new episode and obviously unfunny writers spent that time doing anything but working on a good material. Undoubtly SNL is getting worse with time. Good jokes are not allowed on modern TV. We get it. OK. But this is a one star bottom. Comedy TV can't get any worse.
