DC's new Masters of the Universe series sounds like Crisis on Infinite Eternias!
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is one of those properties that has been around for so long that there are multiple takes on it and they're all over the place. Like Batman, Spider-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Ghostbusters, there are incarnations that are badass and incarnations that are wonderfully...not so badass. It used to be that things were roughly linked together with action figure-based comics, an animated series, a continuation of the animated series, and a spinoff animated series. Now we're at the point where the spinoff has been rebooted into a popular Netflix cartoon starring his cousin She-Ra, with another on the way from Kevin Smith.
It makes sense that after all this time, we'd finally get our own He-Man version of Turtles Forever and Into the Spider-Verse.

There's a Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated crossover movie in the works, and it looks amazing.
After three comic book crossovers, Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will take their team up to the screen with a Dtv animated movie called Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The movie is expected to hit home video formats late in the spring.
And holy casting news Batman, we know who’s going to be in it. Batman will be played by Troy Baker, who’ll also be The Joker. The Turtles will be played by Eric Bauza (Leonardo), Baron Vaughn (Donatello), Darren Criss (Raphael), and Kyle Mooney (Michelangelo). The film will also feature a who’s who of Batman villains, with Tara Strong as both Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, Tom Kenny as Penguin, John Dimaggio as Mr. Freeze, Carlos Alazragui as Bane, and Cas Anvar as Ra’s al Ghul.

Longtime fans of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came out of the woodwork this weekend, as the new film registered the biggest debut for the franchise in their cinematic history. That includes three well-liked live-action films, as well as a 2007 animated picture that generated lukewarm responses. But fans may have been missing out on the strangest and most essential Ninja Turtles text of them all. Perhaps they should have been watching Turtles Forever. Turtles Forever was actually an offshoot of the recent television series, which ran from 2003-2009. Produced by Mirage and 4Kids, the show was a pretty well-liked adaptation of the property, ending with a three-part film that celebrated the 25th year anniversary of the franchise. And they did so by exploring and interrogating exactly what the brand had meant, analyzing exactly why the Turtles have been so popular, and how they've evolved beyond their initial incarnations. Few fans acknowledge...

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle franchise celebrated three decades of existence in May. Like so many 30-year-olds, it’s made a few mistakes along the way. And so, on the occasion of this weekend’s vaguely anticipated, generally feared Michael Bay-ified reboot, here’s a look back across the wide expanse of the Tmnt-verse that seeks to answer one question: What are the 37 worst things this franchise has ever created?

And when I walk up in the building/everybody's hands go Up!....And they stay there!
It’s the week of release and I still don’t feel like I have a bead on the new live-action iteration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But that's okay.
I’ve been following the development of this movie since it seemed like an immediate reality at a public showing of the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action film in New York celebrating a Turtles anniversary. The creators were on hand and everyone was excited to hear the Turtles were going to interact with real things again after a hibernation period in the cartoon space (which gave us some worthwhile entries for the Turtle fan - TV’s Turtles Forever and cinema’s CGI Tmnt).
Then, there was the whole “these Turtles are Aliens” debacle that at first looked like producer Michael Bay misunderstanding the property then,...

Comic book movies are solid blockbuster fare now, but there are plenty of adaptations that didn't get the love they deserved...
You might argue that fans of comic book adaptations have had a pretty good decade or so. Between The Avengers movies, the Dark Knight trilogy, and multiple Spider-Man and X-Men films, some of the biggest-grossing action movies of all time have been based on comics. Not bad when you consider that only recently, the medium was considered the preserve of dateless man-children alone.
But here's the thing: not every comic book adaptation lends itself to being a summer tentpole CGI-fest, and just as many get overlooked or forgotten completely by the time the next one comes out. Comic adaptations are coming out thick and fast, and with so much forward momentum it's sometimes worth taking a moment to look back on what's come before.

This new Blu-ray set gathers together the three live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies in one collection. Matt takes a look...
I was invited along to Legoland as part of their bank holiday Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles weekend back in August by Nickelodeon (the show is expected to return to Nick in November). Initially confused by the ridiculous number of short people (many of whom were dressed as Ninja Turtles) surrounding me, I soon became aware that the place was being overrun by a swarm of sherbert-huffing hyperactive children.
Obviously, I was livid. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is for my generation. I tried to explain to them that they were ruining my childhood, but they were so busy enjoying theirs that they hardly paid me any notice, no matter how furiously I screamed. The Legoland staff was similarly disinterested in my distress, but they were practically children themselves.

Update #2:
First question: Did Michael Bay just neglect to make a Shredder pun while addressing his ‘Ninja Turtles’ fiasco? It would have been soooooo easy.
Second question: Does Michael Bay think February was a “long time ago?” The script that was illegally leaked online and widely reviewed had a 1/30/12 date, which would seem like almost 2 years after Bay and Platinum Dunes were attached to the project in Late May 2010.
And who better to help lay the blame on Bay than Peter Laird, one of the Turtle’s creators:
I think the script that I read is so fundamentally flawed, and — more to the point — so Not a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, that trying to make piecemeal changes to it in an effort to make it into something halfway decent is probably a fool’s errand.
In my opinion, the thing should just be tossed out, deliberately forgotten, and...

A few years ago, when Nickelodeon bought the rights to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, they placed a new feature film in the hands of Platinum Dunes (a studio which, at the time, had only made low-brow -- low-budget, rather -- remakes of horror films). That studio is co-owned by none other than Michael Bay. Businesswise, this makes perfect sense. Give the guy who reinvograted Transformers in pop culture the four pizza-loving ninjutsu practitioners from 1984 (interestingly, both Transformers and Tmnt were created in '84). But Michael Bay is not one of the world's most likable filmmakers; in fact, he's among McG, M. Night Shyamalan, and Brett Ratner as one of Hollywood's most vile filmmakers. Bay has positioned himself in the film's production solely as producer, with Jonathan Liebesman (Platnum Dunes' The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Battle: Los Angeles, upcoming Wrath of the Titans) attached as director.

Matt concludes his celebration of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies with Turtles Forever...
As part of the celebration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' 25th anniversary, the animated film, Turtles Forever, was produced. Set in the world of the 2003 TV series, the film wasn't so much released as it was carelessly knocked off a shelf and into the world. (My suspicions that the release strategy was planned as an act of revenge by a petulant, bitter Biker Mice From Mars fan are yet to be confirmed.)
After theatrical screenings were cancelled, it was trimmed down and shown on American television, with the full-length version made available for free streaming on the Internet. It was given a particularly clumsy Us DVD release in 2010, featuring the shortened TV edit of the film, presented in the wrong aspect ratio. It's just now been given a release in the UK (with the flaws...

Turtles Forever Directed by: Roy Burdine and Lloyd Goldfine Written by: Robert David, Matthew Drdek, Lloyd Goldfine Starring: Michael Sinterniklaas, Wayne Grayson, Sam Riegel, Gregory Abbey, Darren Dunstan, Marc Thompson, Veronica Taylor The times they are a changin'. Nowadays, even Michaelangelo is irritated by the grinning, pun-happy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of old. Sure, it may be a slap in the face to fans of the older series they grew up with, but Turtles Forever is just fan service topped with fan service with a side order of fan service. The concept is nothing short of brilliant, having multiple generations of the Ninja Turtles meet in their own dimensions via portals. The movie features three groups of Turtles: the recent '03 series, the original '90s cartoon, and the comic book source material. It's how these three intertwine that makes this work. What used to make total sense back in...

Looks like another uneventful Tuesday as far as DVD releases go. By far the biggest thing hitting stores this week is the final season of Lost and the Complete Collection box set, but other borderline noteworthy discs include The Back Up Plan starring Jennifer Lopez, the Australian thriller The Square starring Joel Edgerton, Dorian Gray starring Ben Barnes, and George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead. As for TV on DVD, there is also Season 13 of The Simpsons, season 2 of Pawn Stars, Flight of the Conchords: The Complete Collection, and the made-for-tv animated feature Turtles Forever (which is worth checking out if you're a Tmnt fan). All this plus The Asylum's magnificent unofficial sequel to James Cameron's Titanic! Will you be buying or renting anything this week? The Back Up Plan [1] (+ Blu-ray [2]) The Square [3] (+ Blu-ray [4]) Survival of the Dead [5] (+ Blu-ray [6]) City Island [7] (+ Blu-ray [8]) Dorian Gray [9] (+ Blu-ray [10]) $5 a...

Although it probably comes as absolutely no surprise whatsoever, I was a huge fan of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” cartoon back in the 80′s. The modern incarnation, while amusing in its own way, never really appealed to me. That’s all going to change on August 24th, however, when the high-concept mash-up “Turtles Forever” makes its debut on DVD. The film chronicles the adventures of the modern Tmnt squad as team up with the 80′s gang to battle legions of very familiar villains. Although the film may stink to the heavens upon high, the nostalgia factor is reason enough for someone as geeky as myself to check it out. The one-minute trailer embedded below is from the picture’s television debut, so please disregard the dated release information it contains. Turtle Power? Oh, yes, my friends. Turtle. Power.

"Turtles Forever" is the made-for-tv animated feature produced by 4Kids Entertainment, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" franchise.
The film teams up different incarnations of the heroes, with the characters from the 1987 animated series and the darker cast of the 4Kids' own 2003 animated series, in an adventure that spans multiple parallel universes.
"...When a battle between the 'Purple Dragons' and what appears to be the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' is captured on film, the Turtles are quick to refute the accusations of carelessness from their master 'Splinter. Breaking into the Purple Dragons' headquarters to get to the bottom of these mysterious doppelgängers, our Turtles discover that their "impostors" are, in fact, versions of them from another dimension..."
