Peacock is peacocking ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics: the NBCUniversal streaming service is raising its monthly rates by $2 on both its Premium and Premium Plus plans. The new rates go into effect for new customers on July 18 — the Paris Olympics start on the 26th.
Existing customers will get the Olympics at their current rate: the price hike for them will hold until August 17 at the earliest (dependent on billing date). The Olympics close on August 11.
Peacock Premium will now cost $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. Peacock Premium Plus, the ad-free tier, will run $13.99 per month or $139.99 per year. Premium Plus members can also download content and get live, local NBC channels.
It could use the money: Peacock lost $639 million in the first quarter of 2024. The company has not announced a profitability timeline.
Peacock has “nearly 100,000 programming hours,” the company says. Of those, 8,000 are live sports — not counting the 5,000 coming from the Olympics this summer.

The Traitors is coming back for Season 3, which means fans should prepare for another round of reality television favorites (and villains) fighting to stay “alive” in a spooky Scottish castle amid a massive game of whodunnit. Seasons 1 and 2 featured TV alums from all over the reality spectrum, from Bravolebrities to The Challenge champions to Survivor alums to Bachelor Nation members and beyond. It’s one of the hottest shows on streaming right now, too, so when it comes to the next season, there’s pretty much no one who’s too cool to be recruited for the cast. In fact, according to The New York Times, reality stars are fighting to get considered for the show. So, with the entirety of reality TV’s many personalities on the offering table, who’s going to join the fold for Season 3? Here’s what we know so far, along with some sublime fan wishlists.

Peacock added 3 million subscribers in the quarter of its exclusive NFL playoff game, Comcast revealed Thursday as part of its earnings announcement. It now has 34 million subs, up from 31 million at the end of 2023.
Still, Peacock lost $639 million in the quarter. At least that wasn’t as bad as the last one!
Peacock lost $825 million over the final three months of 2023. It lost $704 million in the first quarter of 2023 — so the current loss is technically an improvement from the comparable quarters. It certainly helps when revenue grows, as Peacock’s did, to $1.1 billion in the first quarter of the current year.
Universal Pictures in the first quarter released “Argylle” and “Kung Fu Panda 4” in theaters. The latest in the Jack Black karate-bear movie series has done great: it made $481 million worldwide. “Argylle” didn’t even make $100 million. “Migration” was released at the end of 2023, so a chunk of its...

Deal or No Deal Island shared a reel of great Boston Rob Mariano moments on their YouTube channel, and everyone started talking about it.
Season 1 of the show is winding down, with only five contestants left to meet the banker, and Boston Rob is the breakout fan favorite.
The other contestants know it, too, since they have all banded together to form the Night Owls group against him and his buddy, Aron Barbell.
Each week, fans comment on social media that the night Boston Rob gets voted off means the end of their watching the show.
When NBC decided to air what they called Boston Rob’s Most Iconic Moments on Deal or No Deal Island, fans thought he was getting the boot off the island.

Netflix UK will not be changing its commissioning course when the streamer stops reporting quarterly subs numbers, according to its programing chief.
Anne Mensah, who oversees a huge slate featuring the likes of Baby Reindeer and The Gentlemen, said “there is no secret” for producers when they pitch to Netflix, and that this will remain the same given the streamer’s fresh focus on profit over subs.
“I can’t stress enough that [our commissioning strategy] is simply about how you get audiences to press play and stay,” she told the Creative Cities Convention in response to a question over Netflix’s decision to stop reporting quarterly subs numbers from next year.
“Before I arrived the idea was how to put in place a team that is authentically ‘of the UK’ and show you have absolute commitment to staying here long term,” she added. “For me the content remains utterly key.”

Claudia Winkleman is said to be returning to host a celebrity version of The Traitors, due to air in 2025.
Proving that there are few things more compelling to watch than a bunch of people conniving and scheming behind each other’s backs in a Scottish castle, The Traitors has been a confirmed hit for the BBC. The second series aired in January, and as we wrote at the time, it was manipulative but thoroughly addictive television.
According to Deadline, the series – which already has several incarnations in other countries – is about to be expanded further, with regular host Claudia Winkleman set to head up a celebrity version.
The series hasn’t been officially announced yet, but Deadline’s sources have said that an agreement between The Traitors’ production company Studio Lambert and the BBC “is close”. If it happens, the celebrity Traitors series will film in 2025 alongside a third series of the mainline show.

The Traitors creator Marc Pos is getting into business with Banijay.
Pos has struck a development deal with the Big Brother and MasterChef producer via his label MPLab and will forge non-scripted formats with broad international appeal alongside Banijay Chief Content Officer, Development, James Townley.
The rights to all IP created will sit with Banijay and will be available to its production labels and distributor Banijay Rights.
Pos is the Dutch creator of The Traitors, the smash hit that has been successful around the world and was the best-selling format last year, usurping The Masked Singer, according to K7. He forged The Traitors for Idtv, a company owned by Banijay rival All3Media, and The Traitors is sold by All3Media International. Exclusive: Channel 4 has axed its splashy version of U.S. survival format Alone after one season.
The series from Squid Game: The Challenge producer The Garden, which has aired in the U.S. for a decade, has been one of a handful under consideration for a second series recommission over the past few months, we understand. Producers had been preparing for a second season.
In Alone, 11 contestants are dropped into the remote Canadian Wilderness, where each must survive entirely on their own. Eventual winner Tom Williams took home the £100,000 in September 2023 after battling the elements, wild animals and an extreme test of mental strength. The show had been unveiled by Channel 4 in August 2022 alongside The Traitors-esque format Rise and Fall.

1 | In the finale of Netflix’s Ripley, would Inspector Ravini, who’d been shown to be very observant and savvy to this point, really not recognize Tom as the person he spoke to at length as Dickie Greenleaf, even with Tom’s ridiculous wig and the dim lighting?

After The Traitors took the world by storm, high concept reality shows which aren’t about dating are hot property.
The Underdog: Josh Must Win is the latest bingeable reality show “with a twist” and it appears to be setting itself up as a series which pierces the image of the typical reality contestant in favour of elevating an average bloke called Josh, who is neither especially handsome, nor polished, nor confident and therefore is not what we have come to expect from such shows. It’s pitched as a nicer brand of reality show. But is it, really?
The set up is this: nine contestants think they are on a popularity contest called “The Favourite”, but secretly they are actually in a show called “Josh Must Win” and are being manipulated off screen by four “celebrities” – presenter Nick Grimshaw and former reality stars Vicky Pattison, Amber Gill and Pete Wicks...

Exclusive: The company that sells The Traitors format around the world and the Japanese broadcaster behind Ninja Warrior and Takeshi’s Castle have teamed up to create a physical gameshow.
All3Media International and TBS have already partnered to create one show, Lovers or Liars, which launched internationally at MIPTV this week. The duo are getting back in business together to create a second format, which they will bring to market at MIPCOM in October.
Speaking to Deadline at MIPTV, TBS’s Head of Format Development Shunsuke Fukaya and All3Media International’s EVP, Formats & Licensing, Nick Smith, shared the news of the second project, but would not reveal anything else, except that is a new twist on the physical gameshow.
“TBS is known for creating the large scale physical game show like Ninja Warrior and so for the second project together, we want to try out the physical game show,” Fukaya said.

Cannes — “Where Are You?” a screen asked behind speakers at a MipTV panel for “Destination X,” one of the most-awaited new formats in the world.
Some audience members at the panel, may have been asking the same thing.
Co-commissioned by the BBC and NBCUniversal as part of their international formats pact, “Destination X” is designed as their weekly water cooler replacement for “The Traitors,” whose 11 territory launches in 2023 were the most of any format in the world, according to “Tracking the Giants,” a report by analysts K7. Presented Saturday morning at MipTV “Tracking the Giants” branded “The Traitors” Format of the Year.
So its follow-up has been greeted with huge anticipation, an industry audience packing out the boutique auditorium Palais Stage at Cannes Palais des Festivals during MipFormats to attend a panel, ‘Destination X’ Case Study – Building a Global Format With NBCUniversal and BBC.

Exclusive: The Traitors continued on its path of global domination with 11 territory launches in 2023, unseating The Masked Singer as analysis firm K7’s Format of the Year after four years of domination.
The number of Traitors premieres around the world rose by 57%, with the likes of Spain on HBO Max, Germany and Finland launching new versions, according to K7’s latest Tracking the Giants report, which will be presented at Mip TV today in Cannes.
It is the first time in four years that The Masked Singer hasn’t been the most launched format around the world, with a quieter 2023 for the smash Korean series that is now more established in major territories.
And The Traitors “looks set to further consolidate its rapid ascent up the global format charts” with nine launches coming in 2024, which will bring its total around the world to 30, added K7.

Some roll of buzz from the London TV Screenings or Series Mania. Others are completely fresh, or pretty much off the radar.
