This is Jeremy Irvine's first young adult adaptation film after turning down the roles of Peeta Mellark in the Hunger Games and Tobias 'Four' Eaton in Divergent. He previously stated that he didn't want the fame that comes with those type of roles.
Since the Fallen series is a four part series, the makers made sure that they obtained rights to all four of the books in the deal.
