"He went from white plastic to Boba Fett!"
classicsoncall4 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Unlike most of the other reviewers here, I caught this mini-documentary right after the sixth episode of "The Book of Boba Fett", instead of when it came out prior to the series release on Disney Plus. It's true what the story mentions, right after "The Empire Strikes Back" came out in 1980, my two sons immediately latched on to Boba Fett as one of their favorite characters, even with minimal screen time. Although I consider myself a Star Wars fan, I never did get into the personalities of the actors who portrayed the characters, so much of what was presented here was new to me. The fact that Boba Fett had a life even before he appeared in the main franchise was a revelation, and have to agree with the commentators in the story that the mystery of the character and the 'T Helmet' he wore all contributed to the growing popularity of the world's most famous bounty hunter. Aside from the emphasis on Boba Fett, you really have to tune in to this short, twenty two minute feature to catch the world's largest collection of Star Wars memorabilia. If you think you're a serious collector, that alone will blow you away!

Twenty minutes is not enough for him
raptorclock14 November 2021
In Star Wars, Boba Fett is one of the most iconic characters in the saga and perhaps my favorite. A documentary about him was needed.

I don't know how much material they had on this character, but I know the result is too short. I was hoping for a documentary long enough to fill my evening, but it didn't.

However, I liked everything that was shown. The twenty minutes go by quickly, too much, self-celebrating my favorite character.

I would have liked more emotions, more interviews but maybe that's okay too.

Definitely a must for any passionate about the character. But we still want more.

Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett
Prismark1030 December 2021
This documentary on the Star Wars character Boba Fett ties in nicely with the new Disney series The Book of Boba Fett.

The character was conceived as some kind of super imperial soldier with an enhanced costume.

He made his debut in the Star Wars Holiday Special in 1978 as a Bounty Hunter. He was also seen with Darth Vader in a parade.

The characters debut was in The Empire Strikes Back where he was played by British actor Jeremy Bulloch but voiced by Jason Wingreen.

Despite a minimal presence in Empire and The Return of the Jedi. Boba Fett struck a chord with Star Wars fans.

This was a diverting documentary with a focus on Kiwi actor Temuera Morrison who now plays Boba Fett. He made his debut in the Star Wars prequel playing Boba's father.

It would certainly be of interest who might know much about the history of the character. The main omission seems to be the lack of acknowledgement about Jason Wingreen.

Short documentary about the character Boba Fett from the Star Wars universe
Zeyders27 July 2023
For people who want to learn more about the universe and the characters in particular, and here it is about Boba Fett, this documentary can basically tell about him in general. For ordinary viewers, it will not be particularly interesting, as it is more of a fan theme.

It's done well on its own. It uses archival footage and information I've never seen before about the character and his history in a simple story, so it was new to me. Not to say that it gave me anything, but the fact of the matter.

If you're a fan of the Star Wars universe, and the character of Boba Fett in particular, you might want to check it out. For the average viewer, it's unlikely to be useful.

Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett
kaden_lewis19 January 2022
This was a very interesting documentary. I didn't know most of the stuff they talked about. It was very interesting to see how Boba was created and the process included with creating the character. It was cool to see how he started out, and what was done with the character. The facts they added about Boba were also cool. Especially the one where it said he only got a total of 6 minutes and 32 seconds of screen time in The Empire Strikes Back and Return if the Jedi combined.

I feel this documentary could have been way longer, and they could have added a lot more stuff, and dove a little deeper on the stuff they did, but regardless, this was a very well done, very informative documentary.

At first sight, you didn't say, "that's a Stormtrooper". You said, "whoa, who is that?"
TBJCSKCNRRQTreviews5 July 2022
This consists of interviews(new and old) with the cast and crew, all of whom have something compelling to add within their area of expertise(and there is a very clear love of what they're working on), clips from the subject, behind-the-scenes footage, and incomplete effects shots.

It's 22(well, 20 and a half without end credits) minutes long. This is found on Disney Plus.

They talk about the history of the character. The original design. How originally the look was for an army, not an individual. The Holiday Special. Him appearing in the Marin County Parade. The helmet. Poncho. Jeremy Bulloch (RIP). The subtle movements. Doing conventions. Temuera Morrison, Daniel Logan. The prequels, The Clone Wars. Guiness Book of World Records largest collection of Boba items. The Mandalorian. Bringing about "The Book".

I recommend this to any fan of the property. 8/10.

Something enjoyable for newcomers and casual viewers of "Star Wars"...
paul_haakonsen13 November 2021
Running at a mere 21 minutes, the 2021 documentary "Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett", that I only assume came into being because of the upcoming "The Book of Boba Fett" TV series, was good enough for a single viewing.

Personally, then I found that "Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett" offered nothing new to me. This was all stuff that I had seen or heard before. But it was still watchable and enjoyable for what it was. And I suppose for the casual "Star Wars" viewer or new-coming fan, then director Brian Kwan's 2021 documentary offers some great insight into the phenomena that is Boba Fett.

Sure, "Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett" was a little bit of enjoyable documentary, but it wasn't something that made me go 'wow'. Nor is it something with enough contents to it to support more than just a first and single viewing.

My rating of "Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett" lands on a bland five out of ten stars.

Good, but where is Jason Wingreen?
kriedy1712 November 2021
Good documentary, but why is there absolutely zero reference to Jason Wingreen, the original voice of Boba Fett? It's almost as if there is some sort of contract at Disney that does not allow them to talk about the movies pre-Special Editions.

Seems like a huge disservice to the man that originally voiced the character (and who is the better voice, in my eyes).

GREAT Doc, 1 oversight that left me baffled
jedbayes12 November 2021
This doc was great... there was a lot of good info and some things I didn't know about the making of the character. BUT, it's a pretty bad oversight (assuming it wasn't intentional) to not mention the voice of Baba Fett, Jason Wingreen. To me, he is THE voice of the character.

Migraine inducing

I couldn't get past the squeaky narrator.... This isn't the Mickey Mouse club... oh ... yeah it is.

It should have been Temuera Morrison narrating ...
