Best episode yet, and the threads are coming together
namob-4367328 October 2022
Third episode of this gem of a show and now we are also finally getting a hang of what is going on and who is who. We get more background stories for several characters and we get to know what seem to be the big bad of the show.

I get if not everyone was onboard after first episode, or even the second, because the show is not properly giving us the information and character development we need to know who is who, motivations and context. But by the third we have enough, albeit still lacking a bit further development to be fully informed about each character and storyline.

We also got introduced to a Matrix type of situation... just when I thought I had it figured out, so the suspense is still on...

Another thing that should be mention with this show is the music and sound design which is excellent and has extremely high production value.

9/10 and so far this is a great TV show not to be missed.

Another solid episode.

As with the other two episodes, this week's instalment of "The Peripheral" is an entertaining watch. This episode had an almost noir-like atmosphere, and Chloë Grace Moretz delivers a stellar performance throughout. The pace never wavered. So far, I've been quite pleased by the show's ability to strike a good balance of action. There are enough thrilling sequences to keep audiences engaged without detracting from or muddying the story. I find this episode's central theme-the connection of humans and its possible effects-to be intriguing, and I can't wait to see how it develops. The bigger questions remain unanswered. Both the what and the why are buried in mystery. The upcoming episodes have me curious about the story's progression.

Rating: 7.8/10 (Impressive)

Many reviewers are missing a key point
berkinet10 November 2022
This is not a recently written teledrama, it is a rather faithful dramatization of a novel started in 2012 and published in 2014. It is easy to criticize the story from a 2022 timeframe. But, that misses the whole point. If this story had been "updated" it would have been different story. I suspect the more positive reviews are from Gibson fans who are enjoying seeing the story come to life in a manner fairly close to what they might have imagined when they read the book. As for those who haven't read the book, and who may not even be Gibson fans, yes it makes sense why you might not engage with this.

As for episode 3, am I the only one who found the dialogue rather muted?

Good writing so far...

Warning: Spoilers
It's getting good. We are moving forward and we are finding out more about each character. For example, we get much deeper into Corbell's background and how dangerous he is. Also, Jasper is his nephew and Jasper's wife is Flynne's best friend. What a leak for their safety.

Thankfully, I was wrong from the last episode. I mean, I was expecting that Flynne and Burton's relationship would be filled with secrecy, but instead, it's quite straightforward. They are telling each other everything, at least, so far.

We also had a hint into Aelita and Wilf's past, so it helped a little bit to understand why they were so close.

This one was another slow-paced episode focused on getting answers. Well, except for the last 3 minutes. They are building this desire for the viewer to dislike Cherise and as far as I can tell, it's working on me. I'm really waiting for her to get what she has coming.

By the way, I loved the shared view and haptic integration because it feels like something that could exist in the future with Apple's new gesture control and with Neuralink's research.

Also, I loved the huge sculptures spread in the city. I wish that could happen in ours.

As far as the story goes, it has a good pace and it's keeping the hype, but I don't know for how long since the Fisher situation in that town needs to burst and add some dynamism to their local context. Overall, I like the writing so far.

Thank Gibson and Chloë

Very interesting. Thank Chloë and William Gibson. DataCenters IMDB working not for wasted. Hello to 2034 and 2100 from 2022!

Keeps waiting for the next series and the next book.

A good movie to watch slowly, in series, so that you have time to understand what is happening in each episode.

The universe of Gibson's work is very complex, as is the plot of the book, so the film helps to read the book, gives several images to better represent the faces of the characters, in an impersonal high-tech world of the very distant future.

Something is definitely missing in this movie, but what exactly is possible I can only say after seeing the full cycle of the first season.

Missed opportunities everywhere

Warning: Spoilers
With each passing episode I can understand more and more clearly why critics did not enjoy this show much. This episode was as routine predictable as it gets. What is starting to weigh it down here is that despite the shows is MA rating, all we really get out of it is a bunch of cursing. This episode provided the series first nude scene which consisted of a man in his 60's or 70's skinny dipping in a swimming pool. We also had a rather boring major character death which should have resulted in a decapitation but instead only a little trickle of blood and a buddy casually dropping to the ground. The scene where another minor character was killed off with hornets was the least shocking death I'll watch this year in sci-fi. There's people on here calling this show mind blowing. These people must be pitifully shallow minded because the only thing that's mind blowing here is that there are apparently people out here who think this show is if the same calibre as The Boys when it's really just drastically underwhelming and wasting some good potential.

Haptic Drift

Warning: Spoilers
The Peripheral is a show that has me hooked in, no matter the ridiculously long run time and no matter the seemingly over the top and hard to follow behavior of all of the personalities, but I have to wonder the logic of some of the decision making of some of these people.

I don't think you should have to read online recaps and TV news recaps of episodes to be able to follow along with everything and yet it seems like that is the only way for me to try and get a grasp on everything going on.

I like it so far, but I kind of wish they would simplify it, maybe I am just dumb, but that's my take.

That's enough. I'm out!
moritzherz7 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First episode of this show was good and set some expectations for the upcoming ones.

Second episode was not as good as the first but still enough to keep me watching. But this third episode is boring as hell and therefore gives me enough reasons to stop watching. Extremly bad pacing (so low) and boring story are examples for that. The show could have become a good alternative to Westworld but like in the same show the creators could not keep up with the quality. I now know why Amazon did not make much marketing for this show. It's nothing more than mainstream.

Please give me back Rings of Power!

A second viewing is helpful to me
silverton-3795918 February 2023
I decided to watch this series a second time. This time, I know what to skip and I'm enjoying it more. In a second viewing, I already know what I learned of the dreary, boring London scenes and the plot devices they contain, and I can skip them.

I especially enjoy skipping over all the scenes which include that butt-ugly, bald boss woman played byT'Nia Miller (who, BTW, hasn't a speck of acting talent) and the ridiculous Lev Zubov character who doesn't interest me at all.

I look forward to skipping over all the scenes in later episodes which include the Ainsley Lowbeer character who is made up to look like a female impersonator who has never mastered the art of makeup. Seriously, the appearance given to this character by the makeup crew looks as though she holds Drag Queen story hour sessions for kids. Alexandra Billings should have quit that role as soon as she saw how they made her look.

All of this skipping is made possible by simply dragging my cursor over the progress bar and skipping ahead once the silly "London" skyline scenes which open those parts. I mean, what are those huge monument things scattered all over London? Anyway, seeing that appear, I know to scan the progress bar until the story is back in North Carolina.

I like this way of viewing the series much better.
