This one brought a tear to my eyes....well, not really....but it's good.

I saw this short film on the website for the Doorpost Film Project--some sort of short contest for up and coming film makers. It was directed by Michael Regalbuto and Tom Wozny--with Regalbuto also writing and doing the editing. Although I am not sure of their relationship, the film thanks Joe Regalbuto (from "Murphy Brown") in the credits...is Michael one of Joe's kids? The film is a weird redneck sort of Christmas film. It begins with a very stereotypical father being arrested for robbery just before Christmas. It seems that he just couldn't see his family having nothing for the holiday and he snapped. Where this goes next caught me by surprise and I don't want to give away the film--but it involves his little son misunderstanding things and taking the holiday into his own strange little hands.

"The Boy Who Stole'd Christmas" is a very clever little comedy. Aside from possibly shocking viewers as they see a very, very young boy drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon, there is a lot you will like about the film. It's one of the more creative films I've seen from up and coming film makers in some time. The writing, direction and acting by the kid all were great--and I can see the folks who made this going places.
