- SO FAR is about the life of a woman from South America struggling to make her way into the United States. To capture the struggle and danger of the journey, I traveled alone with her during weeks, filming her overland from Ecuador through Central America and into the United States, ending the journey in New York City.—Anonymous
- During the last five years, more than 3,000 people died in anonymity, mostly alone. All risked their life to work in the United States. They do not come from Mexico but from Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Colombia, and Ecuador. 3500 miles south of the United States. And for them the hell begins as soon as they leave their country. This film tells the story of an Ecuadorian family, followed day by day for months in their attempt to live the American dream. This film shows not only their journey as immigrants, but their failures, their successes, and finally their awareness of the price of this exodus without return. Life, love and courage have lead Marlin and Fatima down paths theyd never imagined. This film follows them during almost one year and shows, in a very intimate way, how was their life before the journey, why they decided to go, why they decided to leave their four kids on their own and finally, after many difficulties, how is their new life in the United States, which proves to be far from their initial dream. The story of this family, till their arrival in NYC, is full of developments and very emotional moments highlighting the reality of migration through very compelling characters. This film tells not only the migrants' story but also the history of those who constitute contemporary American society and shows that the border between Mexico and USA is only the most visible part of a long, dangerous journey full of consequences in the social history of the South American continent.
