- Tara is trying to come to grips with the emergence of her new alter, Bryce. She's upset over the disappearance of Chicken but two other alters will soon follow suit. Dr. Hatteras is fascinated by Bryce's emergence but the chairman of the college psychology department, Dr. Smolow, thinks he in way over his head, especially after Bryce makes a special dinner for him. Smolow thinks Tara is in need of serious help and recommends a doctor in Boston. Max and Marshall meanwhile are in New York City for the film festival and having fun until Max actually sees his son's film for the first time. Kate is still seeing her friend Evan but continues to worry about the impact his impish son is having on their relationship.—garykmcd
- Open with Tara (who is still Bryce), Hattarras and one of his colleagues, Dr. Smolow, in Hattarras' office. Bryce tells Hattarras that he's just messing with Tara and doesn't actually believe in D.I.D. Bryce then transitions back to Tara. Smolow tells Tara that Bryce is the "abuser alter," an alter based on the primary abuser. This alter tries to protect the person from the original abuse by becoming the abuser. It explains Tara's cutting. Tara says she's going to hit the pharmacy and get some "pychs."
Max and Marshall have hot dogs in New York. Max is happy to get away from home for awhile.
Tara shows Charmaine she's back with some "happy pills." Charmaine is off to meet with Abby and a group of women who call themselves the Fierce Mommies Book Club. She also wants them to have a "Menstrual Sunday" gathering with Kate. Tara passes, saying she has to cram for a test.
We see Tara studying in her backyard. She takes one of the pills and soon after transitions to Bryce. She starts ripping pages out of textbooks and makes himself throw up the pill. He places all of Tara's school work into the grill and sets it on fire. Tara only returns when Bryce burns himself holding a book.
Tara calls over Hattarras and Smolow. She says she now no longer feels Shoshana and things in her brain are getting crazy.
Outside Tara's place Smolow says he thinks Tara is way more than Hattarras is qualified to handle. Hattarras says that the kite man has nothing to do with his interest. Smolow (the chair of the department) says the school is concerned with liability issues if he continues to treat Tara and wants him to cut off contact.
Kate and Evan go to a museum. They seem to be getting along great, but Monty throws a bat at his father while they're talking.
Marshall calls Tara to tell her that he ran into Jim Jarmusch on the subway. Jarmusch (who Tara's never heard of) ended up telling Marshall he'd come see his movie. Tara doesn't tell Max about the recent craziness. She hangs up and tells Hattarras she didn't want to ruin Marshall's week. Tara takes another pill.
Tara and Hattarras play Go Fish and he tells her about his career falling apart after promising beginnings at Oxford at Columbia. Hattarras thinks he ended up at a branch of Kansas State because he forgot his name. Tara tells Bryce the other alters are angry at her for letting Bryce hurt them. She says the alters are friends she's had for 20 years, but they are friends she's always wanted to leave. She wonders if maybe Bryce is the only way she knows how to get the alters to leave.
Charmaine talks with Abby and her friends at the park. They talk to her about finding balance in her life. All the women seem heavily into booze or prescription drugs.
Max and Marshall settling into a full house to watch his film. The beginning of the film Marshall's voiceover talks about Tara, then transitions to the actual subject of the film, Max: "A man living one life, dreaming another." The film is called "Max Makes Good." A confused Max looks over at Marshall.
Hattarras wakes up to find two playing cards sitting on this chest with the letters 'F' and 'U' on them. Tara is gone and we hear loud music in background. Hattarras walks downstairs to find Bryce wearing a pumpkin on his head and stabbing Gimme's red poncho. Bryce says "have you met Gimme? Whoops."
Max's film comes to an end. The crowd seems to have liked what they saw, but Max look stunned. He is not clapping.
Hattarras asks Bryce why he's killing the alters if he thinks they're phony. He's says he's "a growing boy" and there is only so much room in Tara's brain. "Three down, three to go." Bryce says his eventual goal is to kill Tara, as well. Tara returns and tells Hattarras that she's really scared. Hattarras says Bryce is just a bully and will be easy to get rid of. Upstairs we hear that Kate and Charmaine have arrived for their Sunday gathering.
Marshall is grouchy both about only winning honorable mention and the fact Jarmusch never showed up. Max is upset about the way the movie portrayed him and wants to know if that is really how Marshall views him. Marshall points out that nobody ever asked to see the movie. Max says the movie would have "killed" Tara. Marshall says that Tara is crazy, and the fact they treat as an eccentric has a cost.
Charmaine wonders if Tara is having an affair. Tara swears that Hattarras is just helping her with "something big." Kate is worried about dealing with Evan's kid. Hattarras comes out to join them after heating up the stew. Tara goes inside and we see the Bryce has made her throw up yet another pill.
The foursome has more wine and toasts to the men in their life. Hattarras tells them Tara "has produced an extraordinary document." They begin to eat the stew and Kate compliments the quality of the crab, as Hattarras chokes. He is deathly allergic to crab (which he's told Tara in the past), but Tara swears she never put any in the food. Hattarras tells Kate to cal 911 as Bryce makes an appearance. Bryce has clearly attempted to kill Hattarras and he introduces himself to Charmaine.
Tara sits in Hattarras' office with Smolow. With Hattarras sitting silently behind the desk Smolow tells her she'll be getting an A in his Abnormal Psychology course provided she doesn't return to the classroom. They will not be finishing the paper and after the semester Hattarras will be taking a leave of absence. He gives her the name of two of the top D.I.D. experts in the country. Before Tara leaves the room Hattarras advises her that one of the doctors is much better. He adds: "Consider me converted."
