Just relax and enjoy

Is it fake? Probably. ;) Is it fun to watch? Yes.

Alaska is beautiful and to see an area I probably won't get to is cool.

If you like a bit of history thrown in with your bigfoot hunt then this is the show for you. Enjoy!

A charming fun time
thomas-mendolia13 May 2022
I'm big into cryptids, and this provides the lovely charm and mystery that cryptids give me. Well researched and well put together for a fun time. I've seen most every doc on Bigfoot, and this provides a fresh perspective. I'd highly recommended this to anyone who is looking for something different, and hope this gets renewed for S02!

The cheese is just a guilty pleasure at this point.

The history is cool, although there are plenty of debates on whether it's even real history. Don't expect anything other than just entertainment. It's fun and it's sparked great conversations with my kids.

The guys are clearly reading scripts and sometimes it's super flat which makes it even funnier. I'm half expecting one of them to accidentally say "what was that noise, acts scared". Lots of "look over there", Blair Witch style movie magic. We are definitely going to keep watching it, like moths to the dumpster fire flame, because it's just entertaining.

Producer's Special Freak Out Local Explorers
paberry-118 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
70 years ago the people of the cannery town of Portlock, Alaska were forced to flee their homes following a series of murders and disappearances they blamed on Bigfoot, known locally as Nantinaq.

Many fled to the town of Nanwalek which still technically owns Portlock. In 2019 local elders met with a passing documentary team and decided to take part in a fake documentary about rediscovering Portlock in order to raise cash.

A group of local men head to Portlock led by actor Kyle McDowell, who provides studio dubbed voice-overs wherever the actual dialog doesn't candidly explain the alleged sense of urgency.

Meanwhile the producers run around the woods at night trying, to freak out the participants using "recordings" of Sasquatch, chains being dragged plus trees and buildings being hit with large sticks.

The result could have been a serious investigation of what happened 70 years ago in Portlock. Instead we get a pov documentary series that failed to make a TV network but instead goes straight to streaming on Discovery+.

Hopefully the Portlock mystery will generate enough tourism to support the town of Nanwalek but please don't waste money on more episodes.

Interesting for the history
jlanders-4712214 January 2022
This is actually a good show. I listened to the producer in an interview on Spaced Out Radio pod cast. His interview gave more insight to what happened while filming. Don't believe the 1 star reviews as nothing will be good enough for those people. I'm pretty sure all the low reviewers wouldn't last a day, let alone 40 days, at Portlock. Also, Jeff Davis is a fantastic historian and you should check out his books!

Pretty Good Show
dualpoint-2102515 January 2022
This is a pretty good show. If u compare it to the others it stands out. The people are about what you expect. The people on here blasting it what do you want a Hollywood production. The storyline is right on with what seems to have happened there. If you are not fascinated by it why are you taking the time here. Let the show play out and then we will know more.

Don't You Wish They Treated This Investigation Like Scientists Instead of Actors?
scottmannen12 January 2022
Even if they found nothing, a thorough investigation of the region on foot would still be very interesting. Instead we get this scripted acting with psychics and fake noises piped in. This show is so fake it's dumb. That being said it does hold some entertainment value in the origin story for Port Chatham and the history of the area where something happened a long time ago. Murders may have happened 80 years ago, so they figure that same Bigfoot must be in the area still? It would have clearly died by now due to old age! Offspring could be around...maybe? If they only focused this show on being realistic and hiking the region in a thorough and scientific way then this show could be entertaining. Flying in psychics and disreputable Bigfoot "experts" is all bull. 5/10 for some entertainment value, but I a, betting this is NOT what people really want to see.

I love this show and the crew!
jessmcintosh-951604 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely love this show and the crew! They're definitely braver than I am! However, I wish they'd cut the dramatic music and sound effects.. It just cuts down all the credibility of what the crew is actually experiencing. True believers will end up not watching the show bc of all "extra drama".

Guy: Try praying over of the curse and break/unbind it in Jesus's name.

Girly Boys
markacunningham25 July 2022
Pretending to search for Big Foot, a troop of girly men traveling in groups of 4 or 5, tramp around in wooded areas during both day and night. Every natural sound frightens them while fake sounds pretrify them. And God forbid, if they think they see a Big Foot they immediately vacate their bowels. Makes for humorous entertainment. Best with alcohol.

So many thoughts...
weeder-124-64455311 January 2022
It's not a bad show, I like the way vintage looking interviews were done.

My issue is the guys always running away. They talk to a historian who gives them serious facts about how their people and others who came there. They ignore all the concepts of being respectful.

Going to watch to the end because it's still interesting.

So disappointed
kfradenburgh26 July 2022
So so fake its ridiculous, why must you ruin what could have been something great. You take a very intriguing history of real people and hardship and turn it into garbage WHY it's not necessary. I am embarrassed for these participants.

Not the best bigfoot show but good to listen to in the background.
poseidon-thoughts23 July 2022
Out of all the bigfoot documentaries, this show probably wouldn't make it on the list of great shows. Its a interesting story being told on why they are going back to the island, but other than that it gets a bit boring. There is no quick footage, or sounds recorded of bigfoot of any kind. Mostly its about the spirits of the previous settlers wandering the island. Its still something to have playing and listen to in the background if you are a bigfoot fan.

Hoping for Season 2
faussetkate13 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First let's settle some confusion. They're not hunting bigfoot, they're trying to map out an old town their relatives used to inhabit and were forced out of by a series of gruesome deaths and incidents, which is all verifiable. Their forefathers blamed a forest entity they call Nantinaq which a lot of people also call bigfoot but from what I've read and seen they're not quite the same thing, so the title can be a little misleading.

I really like this show, what people call bad acting I call realism. Sure they run from sounds, I would too if I wasn't sure if it was a bear or Nantinaq or even something else. Yes they try to get evidence of Nantinaq and some things feel staged which could've been by producers, they are a tv show afterall. I like the historical aspect and the suspense, you can't help but root for these guys and their community. I want to see a season 2.

My only complaints are the heavy music over scenes when they hear or see something. Yes I get that it adds suspense but it also makes it difficult to hear what's going on. Also some of the "experts" they call in are just terrible, namely the psychic and demonologist.

Could be good
rapestone16 August 2022
Unfortunately, this show is about as bad as Mountain Monsters. Everything seems/is rehearsed and very fake. They are on 40 day mission and don't accomplish anything. They don't really use any night cameras, trail cameras or thermal cams. A missed opportunity for some actual research. If you want a real Bigfoot show, this isn't it. If you want some mindless entertainment about cryptids, this may be for you.

I absolutely loved watching this show, one of my favorite bigfoot shows. Most tend to get pretty boring, this keeps you on your toes. Good work guys, love the scares.

grannijoyce18 January 2022
So they are hunting bigfoot, but whenever they are close to him the say "We better get out of here" I don't get that. If you want to see him you have to keep it together and be prepared. I do enjoy watching but I am disappointed every time the run like little girls!

Come on guys.
aniakgeneral22 April 2023
This place isn't as remote as it's portrayed. It's not an island or blocked by any natural barriers. It's only about 20 miles from a community ( seldovia ) that's been there for I can't even remember how long and still is alive and well. Just because there was a cannery there doesn't mean there was ever some giant slug of fish that arrived there every year. A cannery is placed in the most profitable spot the process the fish. Basically there never was any sustainable harvest in that bay. Sure, fish to catch and eat but not commercial fishing. Trollers would have been far away ( just like in the show deadliest catch ) so nobody is coming back for that reason. So, if there's a wild pack of bigfoot running around I would think they could have made the 20 mile walk to the next village to terrorise them as well. I actually do believe there is a possibility of a unknown creature of this kind. But, when I saw the cinder blocks they hauled for a fire pit instead of just grabbing some boulders from the beach? Really? Just my perspective as 48 year Alaskan resident but hey, if your entertained that's all good to. We can also be entertained by facts, science and accurate history. I also have the feeling that some of the participants in the filming are not told how they are being portrayed in the story line.

Hilarious
bitbucketchip24 December 2021
Send a few likable dimwitted guys scared of their own shadows in a rickety boat a few miles up river. Choose an arbitrary deadline, occasionally fly in the odd 'expert' in by helicopter for dramatic effect, add a 'scary' backstory, the word Bigfoot, a narrator fighting not to crack up while he reads his lines, and a production crew seeding the action. Hilarity ensues.

Ten stars for the unintentional humor.

Wacky and entertaining docu-drama
gnewell-229 December 2022
It's interesting to consider what may be the real reason why the Alaskan natives would return to Portlock. It's doubtful that they are coming back to establish a community, but more likely they are happy to be making money as paid actors in a show. I've heard it said that the show must be real, as they are all using their real names... or so we are led to believe. Just because the names are real, doesn't necessarily mean the show is "real". Now I wouldn't say this show is quite as cheesy as Mountain Monsters, but it does have its entertainment value.

Perhaps the reason Naantinaq won't show itself is the bad acting, terrible narration, and the horrible (and unnecessary) dramatic background music. And like most shows of this type, the so-called "professionals" get into the woods and suddenly act like rank amateurs. They make a concerted effort to make as much noise as possible (like rustling branches and loud talking). Then they start waving lit flashlights all around, and even when they say they see something, apparently the camera person doesn't think to turn his/her camera around to try to see the event until it's too late, if they try at all. Perhaps the camera people are well trained to not disclose the fakery on film.

It would be nice to see a real documentary on Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Naantinaq, and I'm not referring to Expedition Bigfoot either. That show also falls into the category of "docu-drama". Discovery Channel, History Channel, and the Travel Channel have all decided to compete for the Lowball Cheese Award, but give them their due; people continue to watch and it looks like the trend will continue.

Just Awful
zjtzb27 June 2022
This is the most scripted garbage I have watched, and that's saying a lot for Discovery. Some of the stuff these guys say is just downright embarrassing. Does a huge disservice to the unique history of the area and makes a mockery of the legend.

Very interesting but.....
gjereb2 August 2022
I hope these really are descendants of the original Port families and want to reclaim their land and have it be sustainable. But.... if they believe the stories of murderous mayhem by a "creature", why are they unarmed (with or without Kyle it seems common sense)? Even without a creature, this is BIG BEAR" country. Why are there no serious sample taking of evidence i.e. Hair for DNA, scat samples, etc? Why do they only have what seems to be inadequate gear i.e. Small headlamps and penlights and camping lanterns for a forest creature at night? Maybe spotlights around camp, and police grade flashlights? And why not cameras all around the camp? A creature or BigFoot isn't living 100 years or more, nor would it be alone. Reproduction is every primates goal. Hmmm. I do like the show, but more must be done to keep it alive, watch worthy, and realistic.

Pretty awesome
FilmBuff040910 December 2021
This show is pretty exciting! The script is obvious, pathetic, and laughable, but who doesn't love a little cheese? Suspend your disbelief, laugh at the silliness, and enjoy the ride. It's so bad that it's good!
