Last fall NBC aired a new reality series called School Pride. Though the show might have been made with noble intentions, it didn't attract many viewers. It's now been cancelled.
School Pride focuses on communities that come together to renovate their broken and aging public schools. The series follows parents, teachers, and students as they roll up their sleeves to make some positive changes in their hometowns. The TV series' hosts are Susie Castillo, Jacob Soboroff, Tom Stroup, and Kym Whitley.
The premiere of School Pride attracted a tiny 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.90 million total viewers. That put it in third place in the timeslot, tying with a repeat of No Ordinary Family on ABC.
As bad as the debut was, the ratings for subsequent episodes went even lower, attracting as little as a 0.6 rating in...

Kym Whitley needs no introduction. Since her breakout cameo as "Suga" in "Next Friday" in 2000, she's been a wisecracking Bff in "The Salon," a sex-starved hair stylist in "Deliver Us from Eva" and a soft-spoken supportive mom in "College Road Trip." Kym's been on our radar for years, but in her current role as a celebrity co-host on NBC's reality makeover show "School Pride," we're learning about the real woman behind the laughs. She's no joke. He also shares cold, hard cell phone picture evidence (shown here) that a lemur bite is serious business, and says he'd love to romance the main character on one of TV's funniest shows.
I've also got details on the latest season of 'In Treatment,' including new castmembers Debra Winger and Amy Ryan and what the airing schedule is like this year, since they love to change it up and confuse us all.

On Friday at 8pm, NBC debuted a new reality series called School Pride. How does this one stack up? -- a quick success or another candidate for quick cancellation?
School Pride tells the stories of communities who come together to renovate broken and aging public schools. The series follows parents, teachers, and students as they roll up their sleeves to make some positive changes. Hosts are Susie Castillo, Jacob Soboroff, Tom Stroup, and Kym Whitley.
In its first airing, School Pride attracted a meager 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.901 million total viewers. It landed in third place in the timeslot, tying with a repeat of No Ordinary Family on ABC.

The educational system and its failures and successes are always relevant, but lately our nation's schools have been moved to the forefront of our pop-culture sensibilities with David Guggenheim's disheartening documentary, "Waiting for Superman." In promoting the new film, Guggenheim showed us the worst of our schools -- highlighting everything from budget problems to unqualified teachers.
NBC's brand-new renovation show, "School Pride," hopes to inspire some hope in a seemingly hopeless situation. "There are endless problems with the education system in this country - I'm not trying to pretend there aren't," executive producer Denise Cramsey tells Zap2it. "But the one thing we found in 'School Pride' is that there's a lot to be positive about. There are really great teachers, and there are really smart, mature students who care about their communities. Hopefully, when the show comes on, people will find a little hope in that.

Susie Castillo, former Miss USA and MTV host, says succinctly, "I steer clear of reality shows. Most of them are crap." It's a view I share, at least when it comes to makeover shows. And yet NBC's School Pride which premieres on October 15 may have viewers rethinking the value of such programs. It features Castillo -- along with three others -- tackling the urgent need to give America's children safe and appealing schools in which to learn. The show's premise is hardly revolutionary: the four telegenic hosts arrive at a school that is virtually crumbling around its student body and vow to overhaul it in the space of seven days (10 days in the premiere.) But the innovative -- and tear-inducing -- twist is that the entire community is enlisted in the effort. In the pilot sent to me...

NBC wants to get into the life-changing, tearjerker reality show business in earnest.
The network has added the uplifting alternative program "School Pride" to the curriculum for fall.
It's sort of an "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" but the edifice being made over isn't a house, but a public school that's badly in need of repair. In the sneak peeks below, check out the crew coming to revamp Enterprise Middle School in Compton, Calif.
Leading the students, teachers and parents in changing this key element in their community is a team of four -- Swat Commander Tom Stroup, interior designer Susie Castillo ("House of Payne"), comedian and former substitute teacher Kym Whitley ("Til Death") and political correspondent Jacob Soboroff ("AMC News").
"School Pride" is executive produced by "Curb Your Enthusiasm" actress Cheryl Hines and Denise Cramsey ("Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and "True Beauty").

NBC has picked up "School Pride" which is an unscripted series from Cheryl Hines ("Curb Your Enthusiasm") that apparently gives makovers to schools. The project is from Horizon Alternative Television and folls a group who help a community band together to restore aging educational facilities. The project was inspired by a real-life effort in Compton, CA, where local activists fixed up school buildings. Denise Cramsey (ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition") and Hines are serving as executive producers.

NBC just wrapped up its fall 2010 orders by picking up a reality show called School Pride from Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and Denise Cramsey (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition). The feel-good series will give communities the chance to fix up their aging schools and was inspired by a similar (though untelevised) effort in Compton, Calif., in which the locals spruced up a local campus.
Just like what happens on ABC’s Home Edition, camera crews will follow volunteers as they turn around a school. The show was announced as an NBC special earlier this year.
