Exeter Place, where we filmed a majority of the movie at, was said to be haunted. According to the home's owner, Cathy Hartley, the 1831 southern antebellum home was taken over by union troops during the Civil War and used as a cavalry headquarters and hospital.
During the scene where the Sheriff orders Grace Sherwood "ducked" in the lake for being a witch, the row boat was slowly filling up with water and had to be bailed out with paper coffee cups between shots.
The Ferry Plantation House, where the dinner scene was filmed in, is also said to be haunted. This is also the site of the infamous witchduck trial of Grace Sherwood, Virginia's only convicted witch. She has since been exonerated by Governor Kaine.
