The trend of re-releasing films is in full swing, and almost every industry is witnessing it. A few days back, Thalapathy Vijay’s Ghilli was arranged in theatres for a rerun, and the film surprised everyone with its performance at the box office. It is still running in theatres and is already a record-breaking success in re-releases. Now, even Ajith Kumar’s two films have hit theatres for a rerun. So, let’s discuss how’s the response.
The box office rivalry between Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar is known to everyone. Both have tried to remain ahead of each other in collection, but in recent years, Vijay has displayed his one-sided dominance, all thanks to his strong pull outside Tamil Nadu. On the other hand, Ajith enjoys a strong pull only in the home state.

AnalysisFrom north Indian characters celebrating Holi to directors adding Holi festivities in songs for the visual appeal, Tamil film songs have included the festival of colours over the last few decades, writes the author.Rajinikanth in a still from Pa Ranjith's KaalaThe iconic ‘Rang barse bheege chunarwali rang barse’ song from the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Silsila is usually on top of any playlist during Holi celebrations. Then there’s the ‘Holi ke din’ song from Sholay, which also rings loud on “Holi-Day”. And one cannot forget Gabbar Singh’s legendary “Holi kab hai?” line from the same film. Holi has been an integral part of Bollywood pop culture and vice versa. After a couple of years of muted celebrations due to Covid-19, Holi is back with verve and vengeance this year. In the south of India though, Holi is not a big festival. It is not a holiday even.
