The Lashman
Written and Directed by Cameron McCasland
Starring Stacey Dixon, Shawn C. Phillips, David Vaughn, Jeremy Jones, and Kaylee Williams
The Lashman has been making it's Festival run for a bit now, and has been getting some love. I will start by saying I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but I know that the slasher film is my favorite sub-genre of horror, so I was excited to get a chance to check it out.
What McCasland, and Co., have constructed here is every bit a love letter to a specific time period in horror history. Films such as “The Town that Dreaded Sundown”, “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, and “Friday the 13th” all came to mind, while viewing the movie. I have to admit here and now that this is not my favorite time period for horror. So to say that I...

It's always nice to see anyone involved in horror take home an award. But when you see a local guy who's obviously got a great love of the genre receiving accolades, it's that much sweeter. And that was exactly the case this week when Tennessee's own Dr. Gangrene was nominated for three Regional Emmy Awards.
Dr. Gangrene is played by writer/producer and all-around lover of horror Larry Underwood. With his partner in crime, Cameron McCasland, Dr. Gangrene nabbed nominations in the made-for-television movie, best public service campaign, and best short film categories.
Well done, boys! Here's a Regional Tip of the Scalpel to show just how proud of you Doctor Gash and your friends at Dread Central are! Keep up the great work!

Check out the teaser trailer for Cameron McCasland's The Lashman, starring YouTube sensation Coolduder aka Shawn C. Phillips. The film's premise is simple, five friends get killed while on a camping trip in the woods, but the charm comes from the low budget production that stars our good friend Lee Vervoort (Gun Town), Stacey Dixon (Thong Girl 4: The Body Electric), and David Chattam.

Know what we love about kids? No matter how many movies they see or how many times they've been warned, they will still always head out into the woods to go camping and then eventually get torn to bits by some malevolent force! It's natural selection at its finest!

A few of my friends turned my attention to video blogger Coolduder (that's all one word, to you) a few years back. The guy does online reviews for films in his massive DVD collection . His entries are sincere and low-tech, and that only adds to the charm (for lack of a better word). Recently, it seems he's venturing out of the movie cave and onto a somewhat larger screen for a film called The Lashman .
